We wanted a few days relaxation without spending too much. Looked at website and thought it looked OK. What a lovely surprise. It was like stepping back in time, when service, courtesy and all the 'litttle things' mattered. Staff were warm and friendly, service was excellent and the food was outstanding. We booked in for bed and breakfast and ate in the restuarant on the first evening. After the experience we changed our booking to include dinner as well. The choice of menu is vast, portions substantial and quality outstanding. Silver service 4 course meal plus coffee has to be the best value we have ever had.
Every member of staff we encountered were polite and helpful and the Manager/Director Mr. T Rew was always on hand.
I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a quiet break, where you are made to feel special.

Had a very enjoyable long weekend at the Livermead House Hotel. Lovely room with beautiful view across Torbay. Very glad we decided to stay half board as the restaurant is delightful and the food fantastic. Had a four course evening dinner each night with a great choice of fish, i.e. Red mullet, Bream, Sea Bass, and Lobster (at a supplement). There was also plenty of meat on the menu to keep my husband happy. There was also a pianist on two evenings which was very pleasant. Excellent breakfast in the morning. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was run to a very high standard throughout. The room was large with a lovely ensuite and kept very clean with new towels each day. Had a swim in the outside pool, it was rather cold but I expect that was due to the weather at the end of August. The gardens were very pretty and overlooked the pool. I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel to my family and friends, and hope to return in the not too distant future.

Two from Hampshire.

we booked in for a family wedding which was being held at the hotel and may i say was absolutely lovely.
we arrived late friday night, and after being shown to our room i wanted to leave immediately. the room was small, outdated, the bathroom was a disgrace and it was supposed to be more superior of the two rooms we booked !!! My daughter was in room 20 and i can only say shoebox comes to mind when describing it. When i complained to reception about the rooms we were told we could upgrade at an extra cost. To be fair it would have been nice of them to offer a discounted rate, it is supposed to be a three star, i can honestly say 2 star for the bedrooms would be too much!!!! It wasn't only our family that complained, the whole of the wedding party who were staying there complained too. Most of the rooms were just too small, the whole place needs a revamp. For what they are charging , it really was not worth it We paid £480.00 for two rooms for two nights, only for the fact the wedding was being held there, we would have gone to a 4/5 star for the same price!!!
The only thing i can say positive was that the staff were lovely, the night porter was very accomodating, and Miriam (or MiMi )was so lovely and helpful to us. I would reccomend this hotel for functions, but for staying in, i would definitely look for somewhere else !!!

  • Disliked — the hotel rooms. vastly overpriced. Also not very good for disabled people.

I booked this hotel as a surprise for my husband's birthday on a DBB rate for one night. After the booking was made I read some of the reviews on TripAdvisor which did alarm me somewhat, so I telephoned the hotel and had a reassuring conversation with the manager Mr Tim Rew. Mr Rew assured me that I would be allocated a very satisfactory room which he then described to me in full. Unfortunately, on arrival, I was not allocated the said room but instead shown to the rather plain and uninteresting room 42. However, I returned immediately to reception where the staff couldn`t have been more helpful. They did indeed confirm that room 42 was not the room suggested and straight away moved us to room 101. We were very satisfied with this room - a lovely refurbished room overlooking both the garden and the sea. It also had a good size bathroom with bath and shower.

Dinner was superb, and at the end of the meal a birthday cake was brought to the table complete with candles and three staff members sang `Happy Birthday` - a lovely touch we thought because I had not ordered a cake. We took the remainder of the cake home the next day and shared it with our family.

Breakfast was an equally delicious meal with plenty of cooked choices.
We enjoyed our stay very much and do intend to stay again. However, we are now aware that there are obviously 2 grades of room and we will request room 101 again or one of similar quality. The staff were ALL most approachable and helpful .

  • Liked — The quality of the food. Lovely view from bedroom window.
  • Disliked — Being given wrong room initially.

Having stayed here 40 years ago as a young child, i took my daughter now 12 for a few days in Feb 08. The place is kept in the beautiful ornate original 1920's style, including the old cage lift, chiming clocks, chandeliers, patterned carpets and rooms. The dining rooms are just breathtaking, and everyone extremely welcoming. Food is superb - especially breakfast which was just wonderful with beautifully dressed waitresses. Evening meal, the staff have tails and white gloves - just soak it up and enjoy. Remember the rooms are traditional styling Ok, not modern marble and chrome, but the place is fully wireless networked, is on the sea front, positioned perfectly between torquay beach and paignton. We loved this place and will definitely come again next year, it's an oasis and extremel.y special. Love the place. Thanks for looking after us. As for ghosts here..... well, indeed, we were not disappointed. Incidentl;y, the Bombay Express in Torquay is well worth a visit, well up to the best currys you'll find anywhere.
