“Great View”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2013

This is a bit of an Olde World Hotel, deep carpets and staff dress in formal uniform. We had an economy room big mistake, TV didn't work even though the Barman came and tried to fix it. The bathroom was cold and we found a few cobwebs in the room. Parking was great, the views outstanding breakfast was excellent. Would stay again but pay the extra for a seaview.

Room Tip: Seaview but it is expensive.

First visit to this hotel although have spent many weekends in Torquay.
Good location giving you a chance to have a good walk into Torquay or a Bus to many other places and a short walk to Cockington.
Nice room although next time I may pay extra for a sea view.
Dinner in the hotel on first night was excellent with good service.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view.

Friends invited me to join them for Sunday lunch. There was little I could say being a guest. But they love Silver Service. However when the vegetables came there were just peas, carrots & cabbage the helpings were very small. This would not encourage me to go again. After the meal we moved to the lounge for coffee which was not very comfortable

We recently celebrated our Golden Wedding Anniversary with a party at the Livermead House Hotel. The Party was excellent with lovely food and staff who were very polite and courteous and nothing was too much trouble. We also booked several rooms for family and friends who travelled from different parts of the country, they all said how pleased they where with the rooms they had. All in all we could not fault the weekend.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the sea.

Whenever or whatever the occasion I find this hotel and service delivers the guest expectation and more. Whether its 's a drink, game of squash or a function you are always left feeling very satisfied. A very well run establishment and has been for many many years.

The Livermead may provide coach parties for the over 80's with an ideal seaside destination, but for the seasoned business traveller it falls well short of expectations. The marketing of the hotel dances precariously with misrepresentation, and the owner needs to seriously reflect on claims as to its suitability for the business client.

It is painfully apparent that the hotel requires a major financial investment to deal with its many failings. These include (1) decor promoted as period charm, when the reality is that it describes at best late 60's styling, (2) bedrooms that resemble army billets in both size and bedding, (3) overpriced and poor food served in faux silver service style, and (4) an absence of all modern amenities (wifi, hot desking, business suite and hi-speed broadband).

Having been booked in my employers for three nights, I terminated my stay after one night and complained to the owner. To his credit he sought to provide an explanation, but sadly 'solutions' fell short of an acceptable remedy. The owner apparently places great emphasis on the principle of 'customer first'. If this is the case he should pay attention to the significant number of negative Tripadvisor reviews and act on these concerns. There is not an endless stream of over 80's prepared to accept dated and tired accommodation at inflated prices, and if there is a future for this hotel it needs to look beyond pompous morning suits and 1930's retrospection.

A previous positive review described how the hotel had not changed in the 55 years since the reviewer's last visit. How accurate!

Booked into the Livermead by a business client, so something of a 'blind date'. It is difficult to find words that can adequately describe how bad this hotel is, but I will try.

First off, I amazed that it has had so many positive reviews. It would seem that some people clearly find a dilapidated overpriced care home attractive. If you are over 80 and enjoy 'doing the Lambeth Walk', then you might find the Livermead's fading 'charm' up your street!

The dining room looks like something from the Titanic, and the prices are the same size. The food is unimaginative, poorly cooked and presented with no care or flair. Looking around the room, the sedantry clientele appear to live on a diet of fat rich puddings and sherry. Truly atrocious.

The decor of the hotel resembles Fawlty Towers, yes.. 1975. My sea view room had no 'sea view' due to the fact it was obscured by what appeared to be years of grime. As for WIFI in your room, well forget it. The swimming pool? that happens to be outside if you are prepared to brave the unreliable UK weather and the petrol fumes and noise from the road.

I could go on, but despite a few brave souls who have aired similar views, it would seem a pointless task. A complacent management who survive due to a dwindling clientele with low expectations are simply not interested in rising to the challenge of several negative reviews (interestingly, many of which have been posted during the summer of 2013).

As bad as it gets!
