“Lovely stay!”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

We booked a 2 night stay here, having watched the tv series, the hotel. To be honest the hotel is rather run down, very 70s! But we weren't expecting anything more! The hotels new restaurant was great, I had the pork belly and it was very pleasing on the palate and presented to a very high standard! Excellent location, a 10 min stroll along the lovely promenade to the centre - where there are loads of shops, bars and restaurants. Our room was very small and quite tatty and shabby, but we didn't spend much time in there so was ok. We saw the curly haired receptionist from the tv series Elaine I think she is called, but most of the others have gone now :( Will def return in the summer!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 30 which was tiny!

The Richardson Group purchased the hotel in October 2012. As you have said the hotel does need some TLC which we are currently in the process of decorating, and renovating. Thank you for the kind comments with regards to your meals. We employed Ricco our new head executive chef, in January and he has worked very hard to raise the standards in the two restaurants in the hotel. We are in a brilliant location and I look forward to welcoming you back in the near future, so you can see the massive improvements in the hotel.

Being a fan of the TV series, I just had to stay there. Booked in for 2 nights with a sea view double room (24-26 march). Enjoyed every minute of our stay. Yes the hotel is looking a little tired, but all the staff are lovely. A few remain from the TV series and it was great chatting to them. We also took our 2 dogs and the room was plenty big enough for the dog crate and the dogs are welcome in the bar. I wanted to try the indoor pool, but sadly ran out of time. But it did look nice and inviting. The experience was loved by myself, my partner and the 2 dogs. Well def. go again.

Thank you so much for your kind review. The Grosvenor Hotel staffs are a great team. They ensure that our guests feel welcome from the minute they arrive at the hotel until the minute they depart. We are working very hard to renovate the hotel. This is not an overnight project but lovely guests like yourselves can see this and appreciate the hard work and money we are putting in to the hotel to get it back to its natural beauty. I look forward to welcoming you back to The Grosvenor Hotel.

Just returned from a two night stay at The Grosvenor (21-23 March). The staff were very welcoming and were excited as we stayed in the refurbished room, number 2, which has been done to a very high standard, the best room that we have stayed in for a long time!!! A king size bed, flat screen tv, fridge and whirlpool bath awaited us, the room was warm as we arrived on a very wet and windy day, we also used the lovely warm indoor pool and jacuzzi which was included in the price along with a sauna and small gym,We enjoyed a 3 course meal in the garden restaurant which was presented well and cooked to our liking, the staff there were very attentive including bar staff. On our second evening we went to the bar/ lounge and enjoyed an evening's entertainment we haven't laughed so much!We are now in the proceed of planning our return to the famous Grosvenor as we enjoyed our stay so much.

Room Tip: Ask for room 2 newly refurbished, beautifully decorated, sea view, you don't have to leave the ro...

My husband and I spent two night at the Grosvenor last week (20-22 March). We had a very warm welcome when we arrived and our room was large and very warm - which was particularly important given the weather. It's true that the hotel is a bit 'faded' and really needs the refurbishment which we understand is underway. For example, the eclectic collection of furniture in our room could have come from an old lady's house clearance, but everything was spotlessly clean. The bed was enormous with lovely sheets/linen etc. The thing that amazed us most was the food. We weren't expecting much given how much we had paid, but I don't think you'd find better in the area. Examples are the excellent home made soups, a particularly good salmon mousse and a delicious creamy smoked haddock risotto with red mullet fillets. And, if you're a pudding person, you won't be disappointed! Every member of staff we met was friendly and helpful and very efficient. The restaurant staff were especially good. We used the indoor pool which was very warm and the steps into it are easy which was important to us since my husband is disabled. On that front, you may need to be careful if you have mobility problems as the hotel as a whole is not very accessible. There are a lot of short flights of steps in and around reception and on the way to the restaurant. They changed our room to a ground floor one without us having to ask when they noticed my husband's difficulties. All round it was excellent value but if you want luxury or a smart and modern hotel it may not be for you.

Room Tip: The quality of rooms varies. We were shown another room which was much smaller and not as nice as th...

Thank you for your kind review. The Richardson Group purchased The Grosvenor Hotel in October 2012. We are working very hard to restore the building to its natural beauty. We are currently in the process of fully renovating the bedrooms, one by one, along with painting the outside of the hotel. Our new Head Executive chef Ricco Jenkins started with us in January and he has made some wonderful changes to the hotel menu, and is delivering amazing meals to our main restaurant along with re opening our second restaurant (The Inn) back in February.
We still have work to do in the hotel, but as you have kindly stated, the staff here are wonderful and work very hard to ensure our customers leave the hotel happy. I look forward to seeing you in the near future.

Just got back from four nights at the Grosvenor. Obviously we were attracted by the the television programme as there is a lot of competition from similar hotels in the area but this one exceeded expectations. All the 'stars' have gone and I think the new owner is trying to draw a veil over the hotel's past. There are holes in the walls where the cameras were fitted. The remaining original staff were pretty unimpressed with the filming crew.
We found the staff delightful to deal with and a real asset to the hotel.
We declined the first room offered as being to much of a climb for our 70 year old frames! We ended with family room 3 on the ground floor which is enormous with a spa bath and four poster bed. The adjacent room 2 had the decorators in and is probably a good one to ask for as well.
We had the d,b&b spring offer which was good value.
Breakfast is good albeit on smaller plates to make it look bigger. Dinner was a revelation being well cooked and presented. One poor presentation was the sausage and mash which should be avoided unless guaranteed improved! The bar/lounge is comfortable and snacks and afternoon tea good value. Downstairs there is a nice L-shaped pool with jacuzzi, sauna and gym that is free to use.
Parking is a bit tight but we found a space and claimed it for the duration using our passes to get around on the plentiful buses.
Adjacent to the hotel is a lovely park including a nice little bistro cafe styled like an aussy beach hut. We had a nice little lunch with wine in there.
All in all a nice experience

We recently returned from a stay at the famous Grosvener Hotel! The booking was made for us and our expectations were low, having watched the T.V.series (which we did enjoy watching!) However apart from the obvious need for refurbishing we had a pleasant stay. Our room (31)was large , had a good a nice clean modern bathroom (toileteries supplied) and everything we could have needed was in the room.Staff were professional and helpfull. The breakfast was excellent, we could not fault it,We did have dinner on the first night but did not feel it was worth the £15.99 charged. The only real problem was car parking!!This is very inadequate. We were lucky to drive straight into a space and left the car there the whole of our stay and used the bus. do not know what can be done about this! Overall we enjoyed our stay and would like to visit when work is completed but i expect the price will be increased considerably!!! I might add that work is already in progress!!

After watching Channel 4's The Hotel, we decided to book a visit. We have just returned, but the atmosphere have totally changed. Richardson Hotels who the Hotel now belongs to recently purchased the Hotel off Mr Jenkins, We knew that the interior quality was not great and the service could be temporary. The reason for our visit was to see this place and all of the staff who had been on TV. Half of the staff have now left - Richardsons doing the only person we found was Elaine. Just like to say Thank You we did have a nice stay but it wasnt the same without Mark, Christian & Alison who used to make this place. :(
