Owner description: Cockington Country Park surrounds the picture postcard Cockington Village which lies just off the seafront near Torquay. The Country Park is free to walk around and features beautiful formal gardens, lakes and woodlands which can be enjoyed via a network of paths. Cockington Court and Cafe are nearby, along with a collection of craft studios where you can browse the creations of local artists and crafts people. The Cockington Country Park is cared for by local charity the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust, who's volunteers operate a Visitor Centre in the village. Car parking is chargeable, although Trust members can park for free in the Trust's car park. Visit our website for more details.

Cockington Village is centred around an 11th century forge and various old thatched houses. There are lovely tea rooms dotted around and it offers lovely quiet, country walks.

There is a huge cricket green and craft centre in the middle for children's activities.

I don't think it would sustain a whole day out but due to the activities on offer it would suit both a quiet country walk and also something to do with the children.

Good thing is there is limited parking but also a shuttle bus servce into Torquay so it is easily reachable.

Thank Matt A

great place to stroll around and have lunch Some quaint craft shops, glass blowing etc. Or take your own picnic and sit under a tree on the grassed area.

As above but the shops around seem to sell a load of tat and are not really worth entering unless we missed something!
There are some lovely eateries where you can have a cream tea or light meal and sit under the parasols in the sun or where a pianist will accompany your meal.

If visiting our beautiful Bay (Torbay), Cockington is well worth a visit. Just a 2 minute drive from Torquay seafront, parking may be difficult in high Summer. However, when you drive past the Old Forge, bear left by the Drum pub and follow the country lane to the car park behind the art area. This is next to a very sweet children's park and is by the artists workshops. Please call in to watch the glassblowers (Our Glass) create wonderful vases and plates. You can see a blacksmith at work, a rocking horse artist, a leather artist, calligrapher, woodworker, Liz at Hamble and Jemima making beautiful bags and much more. Stroll on and you are then in a stunning and well maintained country park complete with village cricket green and lakes all safely contained away from the hustle and bustle of the roads. Bring the kids and the dog and let them have freedom to run around. bring a picnic or visit the very good tearoom. (By the way, my kids love to build dens in the undergrowth down by the lakes...if you see us, say hi!)
Cockington is the hidden gem of Torquay.
