“new Indian in town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2013

We had a great midweek dining experience. This restaurant was highly recommended by a friend and we where not disappointed. Great south Indian food with a modern twist but not your usual curry house experience. We had cocktails as aperitif and I really enjoyed my Cilantro cocktail , great green colour, some heat from the ginger and my favorite fresh coriander in a different form and just the right thing before a lovely meal. the food was an experience that reminded us of our holiday in Goa and Kerala a few years ago. We had the squid curry and the lamb shank which was just right and full of lovely flavours-different and a lot lighter than your usual curry, the naan was lighter and did not cause the usual bloating. We loved the little chick pea soup to cleanse the palate between courses-very french! To top it all you get a friendly chat with the owners who explained the dishes and spiced it all up with a few stories about them. We liked the fact that everything is fresh with locally sourced ingriedience and the menu is changing frequently. All together a great experience which we will repeat soon. I have to come back for the pork vindaloo! Unfortunately we could not manage a desert as it was all very generous as well. We can only recommend it-what a great addition to Torquay's restaurant scene.

“Best Indian restaurant by far!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2013

We visited Lavani for my Birthday.
We all have different tastes some meat eaters some vegetarian and vegan so I was concerned that the menu would not be suitable for us all. I should never had worried, everyone at our table was overwhelmed by the delicious and authentic food we had before us. The food is sincerely good the flavours are glorious and the service outstanding.
The emphasis is on quality, authenticity, freshness and the best service.
Nothing was too much trouble and the vegan starter of dosa, main of soya nuggets in a beautifully spiced sauce, and dessert of chocolate samosas went down a storm.
The meat eater too was incredibly impressed with his Pork Vindaloo and said he had not had anything like it before.
This is not your generic Indian food, this is a very special place , I can not recommend it highly enough

“Very different!”

We brought friends here, despite not being before and were not disappointed. If you're expecting the usual Indian Restaurant meal you will be surprised. A little disappointed by the starter which was Scallops. Small and a little rubbery but everything else was amazing & our friends starters: Pork piri piri was delicious. We liked that the Chef came out & explained the menu to us and said he could spice up the dishes if we wished! I had Lamb Shank in the most wonderful sauce & we had several side dishes. Servings are generous so we couldn't eat everything. The naan bread was the lightest & nicest I have ever tasted. Small, intimate restaurant with discreet and helpful service. Highly recommend.
