Description: After the successful trading of Himal Tandoori Nepalese & Indian Restaurant in Paignton; we're opening the doors for new customers in Torquay.
Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

We went here on a Saturday night when we were in Torquay on the holiday weekend.

It is an Indo-Nepali restaurant on Abbey road. It is walkable from the town centre. Also, there is parking available on the road.

The initial impression when you enter this place is, very clean tables & cutlery... And the staff - extremely friendly and polite.

We ordered some Chapati, Aloo Makhani, Himal Mixed Veg, Veg-Madras and Himal fried rice. Everything was so very yum especially the fried rice. It had a very nice aroma to it. Everything was cooked to perfection.

We had a great dinner here at Taj India and highly recommend this place for it's cleanliness, tasty food and it's sweetest staff on Earth. Will visit you soon...

My wife and I visited the Taj India last night, and enjoyed the best curry we have had in ages.
We went for the " £10 banquet" meal, it was certainly good value for money. Popadoms and pickles, starters, main, side and rice or main each. Beautifully cooked and served by friendly staff.
We will be returning!

We were looking for a place to eat and were passing and encountered the manager who was just bringing in supplies. We needed a table for 9 early on a Friday evening and he was happy to accommodate us. To be honest from the outside the restaurant didn't look inspiring and is located on a hill slightly out of the main town however we were very pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent. We are 9 seasoned curry-eaters from the Black Country and everyone was impressed, one even said he wished it was his local curry-house. The restaurant isn't licensed but there is an off-license next door with reasonably-priced booze (but no Kingfisher or Cobra - hint, hint!). The staff were very welcoming and attentive. The Nepalese onion salad on the dips tray was exceptional as was the sweet and sour potatoes. The manager went out of his way to welcome us.

As eateries in town tend to be over-subscribed of an evening, it is well-worth walking the few minutes to Abbey Road. We will definitely come here next time we are in Torquay. The restaurant was very quiet for a Friday evening and is deserving of more custom.

Incidentally I have read the "terrible" reviews on this site and can only say they sound like spoilers. Certainly the people picking up takeaways that we spoke to were repeat customers.

This small restaurant is tucked away but it is worth seeking it out. we had an exceptional meal at very sensible price. The staff were very friendly & helpful. We went on a Tuesday when they do a fixed price menu at £10,00. The choice & quality was super. The best chutney & spice tray with the poppadums was the best I've ever had. They are waiting to get a licence so take your own wine ,no corkage fee.We will definatly be going again. They also do take away with delivery service.
