“With friends at the Burlington Hotel”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Had a great time read all the the other reports I do wonder where they have been staying, requested if I could have a blanket instead of duvet no problem it was done for me.
Yes like most Hotels it could do with an upgrade but this is not the right time, and the
welcome and the staff more than compensate. I must make a comment on the whiteness of the
towels they where pristine white.
I am spending Christmas at the sister hotel was concerned after reading Tripadvisor but not
anymore.
Try it yourself go along and enjoy.

4 Friends & myself returned yesterday from a short break
in Torquay at the
Burlington Hotel.
Reading on Trip Advisor the reports we all were very apprehensive,
but we had no need. The Staff were professional & very friendly nothing
too much trouble.
At meal times there were choices, always presented well & hot we all enjoyed
there was even a vegetarian option. The rooms were big, beds were comfortable, ok they could be upgraded but the
sheets & towels were white.
The entertainment was good & the 99p bar was a bonus.
The Hotel could do with an upgrade but perfectly acceptable.
The only thing we found hard was that there wasn't a lift, but we had our
cases taken up for us by the Porter.
In all we had a thoroughly good weekend, & I'm looking forward to visiting
the sister Hotel at Christmas.

The room was small, the radiator was leaking and when reported was not fixed... the carpet was wet. Black mold in shower tray, black mold on shower curtain. Walls were dirty. Extremely strict meal times don't dare be late or held up by anything or you will be told you cannot eat. Understaffed, manager never available, when asked to see him we got his brother instead who did not show any real concern. Breakfast was however good! Our coach driver who was amazing was refused dinner for being 15 minutes late, he apologized profusely but it was not good enough! He was great and was one of the few good things about this coach holiday. The hotel is described as budget.. it certainly was... no money spent on it for ages!!! Please don't use this hotel for a holiday, it would be a real disappointment!

Room Tip: A different hotel!!!

We only wanted a cheap weekend away and as long as a hotel is clean we don't expect much more. The place stunk of mould as soon as we walked in. It is grubby and below standard. Food was included in our price and it was the most disgusting thing we have ever eaten. We all went hungry, and ended up paying for food in a pub instead of having our last meal. My bed was broken, the tvs barely worked and had 2 channels. Someone was also smoking in one room all night, and after complaining 3 times they still carried on. This was a non smoking hotel. We had 2 pregnant women in our group so we were absolutely fuming. Only met two staff the entire time. Really disappointed with our stay

My parents, aunty and their elderly friends stayed at this hotel at the end of September 2013 - not through choice because their original hotel had a gas leak so they got shunted off to this excuse for a hotel. The food was inadequate, bland and poorly served. The staff were mostly nice and trying to make the best of a badly managed hotel. My mother who has bad legs was given a room on the top floor and this caused a lot of distress. My father who has COPD did not fare much better. The rooms were grubby and the mattresses on the bed were worn and thin and incredibly uncomfortable. Not to be recommended.

Stayed here whilst on a David Urquhart tour and wasn't looking forward to it having read some of the reviews. We were pleasantly surprised and delighted to find that our room was very clean as was the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. Plenty of tea, coffee and milk and the smoke alarm didn't go off once.We found the hotel staff extremely friendly and very helpful with directions etc. Breakfast and dinner were good with different choices and always very hot. The lady that waited on our table was a gem. We had live entertainment every night and the bar prices were the cheapest we had paid for a long time. A pint and a glass of wine for under £5.00. The bus stopped a few yards down the road to get into town and fare was only £1 or if you are able only a ten minute walk. Yes this hotel badly needs updating, decor not the best but the Manager acknowledges this and it is a work in progress. For the amount of money we paid this was indeed a bargain break. If you want a five star hotel pay the price and go to one but if you want a reasonably priced hotel close to the town centre then give the Burlington a try.
