“lived up to all my expectations”
Reviewed September 22, 2009

Having read all the other reviews we had high expectations and we were not disappointed. Marion and Les made us very welcome and were very keen that we had everything we needed. Great breakfast,as every one has said...especially Les' homemade marmalade!
We had a newly refurbished room which was lovely.
Parking was no problem and the free WiFi was very useful

Having read the reviews our expectations were high. we were not disappointed. Great hosts, great location, comfortable rooms, good hot shower, superb breakfasts. This will be our B&B of first choice whenever we are in the area, Do try it - you are unlikely to be disappointed.

We only stayed 2 nights but wished it had been longer. From the moment we arrived we were made so welcome with a pot of tea, apple juice (as I don't drink tea or coffee) and biscuits. Marion asked what we had planned and gave loads of tips and advice, both Marion and Les have such a good knowledge of the area which is very helpful. Our room was number 15, one of the recently refurbished rooms and Marion is very proud and rightly so, the room is beautiful and has a lovely big bay window overlooking the garden, a king size bed and lovely double sized shower cubicle en suite. The fluffy white towels provided smelt fresh and clean and had a mini chocolate bar tucked in them. Tea, coffee and biscuits in the room are topped up everyday and you have your own key to come and go as you please, no 9pm curfew, ha ha. Breakfast was brilliant all you could eat and cooked fresh and all the usual cereals and fruit juices etc, both Les and Marion made sure they welcomed everyone in for breakfast and had a chat with each group asking them where they'd been the day before, they really take an interest.
The family have two lovely dogs that you wouldn't even know lived there apart from the doggy references dotted around, we met them and they are so cute and friendly. It's ideal for visiting Cockington as it's a 20 min walk across lovely water meadows and the walk into Torquay town along the seafront doesn't take long at all. All in all our stay was perfect and we would love to go back for longer.

We have just returned after spending our Pearl wedding anniversary at the Charterhouse. We have been visiting Torquay for over 25 years and the Charterhouse is definately the place to stay. Marion and Les are fantastic hosts, they really make you feel at home and are genuinley friendly and caring. The hotel and grounds are lovely, the rooms are spotless and very well equipped. The breakfasts are amazing, well cooked and plenty of choice. I would recommend this hotel without hesitation. Excellent value for money. 10 / 10 on all levels.

Having read the reviews on tripadvisor, I was determined to stay at the Charterhouse, and it certainly met and exceeded my expectations. Marion and Les are fantastic hosts, nothing is too much trouble, felt like home from home. Yes, the breakfasts were fantastic, thank you Les. Will be returing without a doubt!

Spent a few nights at the Charterhouse and found the owners Marion and Les very helpful. On arrival we were offered a pot of tea and asked if there was anything specific we were interested in - Marion then gave some helpful hints on places to eat and of interest and how to get there. All recommendations we found were spot on!
The room we stayed in was one which hadn't been modernised, so although adequate wasn't of the highest quality. I believe the owners are working through the house and I think the guest accommodation will be much improved when all rooms are of a similar standard.
Having said that, the breakfast was very good and it was nice for us to be offered fish for breakfast (smoked haddock or kippers) as very few B & B's offer this and we can get quite fed up with cooked breakfasts. We had a very enjoyable stay and if you want the quiet part of town, the Charterhouse is ideal, although be prepared for a healthy walk into town or a bus.

I absolutley loved the charter house! After one day i felt at home. Marion and Les where so kind they did everything possible for us to make sure we had a good holiday at Torquay and they suceeded! Coudnt have asked for a nicer holiday or nicer people. it was realy good to have are own room dad said the adjoining room gave them some peace but realy it gave us timeout from them! There is so much to do in Torquay. For all weather types, the beach is great, crabbing at Brixham is the best, there is a waterpark that looks fun but we didnt get to!! DAD. We also didnt get to waves that was are plan for a wet day but there was none! We really liked hireing tennis courts for a hour we are all rubbish but its a good hour of fun! In Painton there is nice things to do aswell the zoo is great but expensive! So overall Torquay is the best! Good for all ages im 13 and i loved it my Dad is desprate to come again, my mum loved it & my brother and sister are mad about the crabbing it was BRILLIANT! ps . dad is missing the breakfasts ! THANKYOU!
