“Excellent service at the Osborne”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

Stayed Sat eve, just one night & would have stayed another time permitting. Another last minute booking for us as we were in the Sidmouth area the previous night & no accommodation avail for Sat. So we decided to drive to the Torbay area, found vacancies here. Staff all so very helpful and talked us through the history of this picturesque place. It has a lovely position looking over the bay, lovely grounds, rooms seem to,have been refurbished to a modern standard. We peaked at a sea view rooms & I would highly recommend staying in one, none avail for our stay this time, it still the 2 rooms our party had were lovely. The hotel, is slightly dated, it it's really still ok. Breakfast, again staff were great and it was excellent. On Sat eve we ate in the hotel Brasserie, great menu & the food was excellent, we'll worth it.

Room Tip: Go for a sea view if you can. They have various offers on all through the year.

Have never been to Torquay before and stayed at this hotel. The room was very nice and I had a sea view, excellent breakfast and easy walk into town. The hotel staff were very friendly and the service was good.

I took my mum for a 2 day break to the Osborne Hotel. The staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble, the pool was wonderful and warm, the room were spacious and clean, and the service from all the staff was excellent. Will definitely go back in the future. The hotel was only 10mins from Torquay town centre where there was a variety of shops. Well worth a visit.

Room Tip: We upgraded to a room with a sea view and it was excellent, made the room very bright and warm. Love...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in our exchange time-share apartment. The lift to our top-floor apartment was out of order, but being worked on when we arrived, but we were given the use of a ground floor flat until it was repaired. All the staff that we were involved with were very friendly and helpful.
The apartment itself had everything you would need for an enjoyable stay, and had quality fixtures and fittings. Although car parking spaces are slightly limited, we always managed to get one.
The situation of the Osborne is really magnificent, with lovely views over the bay, while just a short trip into town.
We would certainly return here, as there is very little to criticise in it.

We stayed for 1 night in a junior suite with a balcony. Beautiful views, lovely fresh linen on the beds and a wonderful welcome from the Manager on arrival. The grounds are beautifully kept and the hotel nicely quiet at night ..no slamming doors that you sometime encounter. We hope to be back

The hotel looks imposing and the view is good - I can't evaluate the hotel as we didn't stay there - just went to eat in the brasserie.
We started with a drink on the terrace - ok, but silly high prices - a lovely pub or restaurant garden would have done just as well. It was too cold to eat outside so we opted to move indoors expecting a nice restaurant. My heart sank as I walked through the door - we entered an echoey downmarket cafe with formica tables and no atmosphere whatsoever. Went to wash my hands before the meal and was greeted with a ladies' loo in severe need of refurbishment and thick dust on the skirtings along the hallway.
On our plastic table we were supplied with plastic pots of condiments in their individual plastic packets, reminiscent of motorway service station supplies. Food came and actually, by that time, was exactly as anticipated - frozen chips, frozen onion rings and a risotto that bore more resemblance to a bowl of boiled rice than anything else, accompanied by a piece of overcooked salmon. I would be totally ashamed to serve this to guests in my own home, let alone expect people to pay their hard-earned money for it.
The service was ok - but at times we did remind ourselves that Torquay was the home of Fawlty Towers.
I have eaten at many restaurants, some Michelin starred, some cheap local cafes, and many in between, and know what decent quality food should be like. It doesn't have to be fancy or over-complicated, just fresh, well-cooked and honest. This is not.
Tripadvisor lists many Torquay restaurants which sound interesting - do yourself a favour and try one of them (I wish I had), or at least a pub where you might get some decent pub grub without having to pay over the odds. I left this place feeling duped and stupid to have been taken in.
