“Clean, comfortable, and overall excellent”

Torquay is a beautiful town, but this B&B made my experience complete. I stayed at the Arran Lodge this past weekend and it was phenomenal! The rooms were immaculate, the breakfasts were delicious, and I haven't a single negative comment. When I arrived I was offered tea and cake (which was delicious). Entering my room, I found more tea, as well as hot chocolate and biscuits. The proprieters were some of the nicest people I have ever met, and very helpful and knowledgable about the area, and places to see and eat. The dining room was beautiful and the breakfasts delicious and filling. I essentially lived in the lap of luxury for two nights, and at a very reasonable price. I don't know if I'll ever get back to Torquay, but I know where I'd stay if I do!

Fantastic stay from start to finish. Jo is very helpful, and happy to give advice on places to visit during your stay. The rooms are very comfortable and immaculately clean. Fresh towels daily. Tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, iron and board, digital television, you'll want for nothing. And the best bit, breakfast!! From the fresh fruits, cereals, yoghurts and of course the cooked breakfast, everything is fresh and VERY tasty!! I would definately advise a stay if you're in the area.

Arrived to a great welcome from proprietor Jo and treated to tea and cake. Had two rooms, one single on first floor and a double on ground floor. Both rooms were spotlessly clean, well decorated and furnished with lots of little extra touches - biscuits/mints/clothes brushes/shoe polishers & selection of DVDs to use in TV/DVD player. Ground floor double was especially suitable for a person with limited mobility - no stairs to climb and right next to dining room. Double had its own patio area with tables and chairs and was a great place to wind down and have a drink. It also had two easy chairs and lots of storage space.
Breakfasts were tremendous and really set you up for the day - wide choice of cereals/yoghurts/pastries/fresh fruit. On top of this was a wide selection for a cooked breakfast - kippers, salmon, toast, bacon, sausage, beans, eggs, tomatoes, black pudding and fried potatoes. We never felt rushed and Jo was very attentive making sure everything was fine and food cooked by Mick was delicious.
Jo was very helpful in suggesting particular places of interest (Fish & Chips at Hanbury's in Babbacombe - buy and eat on the Downs overlooking the sea and cliffs).
Nothing is too much trouble at Arran Lodge. While we were there, another guest celebrated her 18th birthday and Jo went out of her way to bake her a cake, which was duly shared (and devoured) between the rest of the guests. On another day, we returned after a long day out to be greeted by Jo who made us a pot of tea with some cake to eat on the patio.
The house itself is well situated about a 10 to 15 minute steady walk to the sea front past Torre Abbey and Abbey Park with its pitch and putt, bowls, tennis, crazy golf and cafe.
We really couldn't fault Arran Lodge and after spending much time looking at reviews of numerous hotels and B&Bs on Tripadvisor were really pleased with the choice we made. The whole atmosphere of the place was warm and welcoming. We would certainly stay again and would recommend it to others without hesitation. You won't get a friendlier place to stay in Torquay.

Jo the landlady is most helpful and friendly and made us feel very much at ease in her guest house. I slept very well each night in a comfortable bed in a clean modern quiet bedroom, and had a lovely warm shower in the ensuite and an excellent cooked breakfast each morning. I particularly liked the fact that there is an iron and ironing board in each room if required, as this saves having to go down to reception, perhaps in my pyjamas to ask for an iron as is usually the case in other guest houses and hotels. Jo very kindly drove us down to the Riviera International Conferance centre where we were attending Christian meetings.
A short walking distance from Arran Lodge is a fish and chip cafe, Crispins, 26-28 Old Mill Road, with tasty food.
Arran Lodge is very close to Torre railway station, which is handy, as it is easy to walk with your luggage if it has wheels and take the train to Exeter St. Davids's station where the bus then goes to Exeter airport. We found it very straight forward to fly to and from Belfast City Airport. The train journey from Exeter to Torre is very picturesque as there are sometimes sheep in the fields on one side of the railway track, and a river or the sea on the other side.
An enjoyable experience visiting Torquay for the first time and staying at Arran Lodge.
