“Worth a visit!”
Reviewed February 2, 2013 via mobile

We enjoyed a great evening meal & dessert, full of flavours, good service, friendly owners with personal family history here. Try it once you'll go again. Besides full meals, they do pizzas pastas snacks and traditional Italian ice cream takeaway.

“Great Lunch, Want to go back for a Pizza!!”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

Went with my family & friends for a xmas get together. We had a variety of dishes off the day menu & really enjoyed the delicious Paninis. For a drink I decided to try a Fruitachino, WOW that was refreshing, even on the cold day. The service was great & the food even better. I cant wait to go back again in the new year for an evening meal & make a night of it.

“Great Italian”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

This is a lovely little restaurant with Italian dishes. The ice creams are a work of art too. This started off as an ice cream parlour and milk bar and many of my friends met their friends and had their first dates here albeit many years ago

“More than just a pizzeria...”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

You could be forgiven for thinking that Macari's is specifically an ice cream parlour, or a pizzeria. That's the first impression, and BOTH of those are absolutely delightful. BUT... if you look more closely you will find that the restaurant's evening menu also offers classic regional Italian dishes that are the best I have tasted outside of Italy.

Authentic, carefully sourced food is treated with the greatest of respect, guaranteeing the most amazing flavours you could imagine. On my most recent visit, I started with a soup special that tasted like the sun. Full of tomatoey/garlicky warmth, with vongole(clams) and fregola(tiny beads of pasta) floating in the lightest broth. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. My main course was also from the Specials board, a ravioli of lobster and crab in a deliciously delicate sauce. Washed down with a delightful Bardolino which brought back memories of Lake Garda and sunshine.

I managed a taste of home made chocolate ice cream which was also very moreish.

On a cold, dark and very wet winter's night, the welcome was as warm as the soup. Such friendly and attentive service is hard to find. Sadly there were only two tables of diners on that dismal night, but we were not made to feel rushed or awkward. It was lovely and relaxed and almost like being in Italy. Including the possibly kitsch decor! Loved it!

Cannot wait to go back again. Be aware that they have reduced evening opening hours in winter, best to ring first to avoid disappointment. See you there!
