Owner description: Kents Cavern is by far Britain's most important prehistoric cave used by ancient humans for the last 500,000 years including Neanderthals and early modern humans. The caves are open every day for guide tours, 7 days a week with natural caverns, amazing natural formations, remains of mammoth, woolly rhino, sabre-toothed cats, an Ice Age woodland trail quest, nice shop and cafe with views over the Ilsham Valley. The closest hotel to the attraction is the Gleneagles, inspiration for TV's Fawlty Towers. We are 2km from Torquay Harbour and only 15 mins walk from the South West Coast Path and local beaches, well-known to previous visitors like Agatha Christie, Beatrix Potter, George V, Alfred Wallace and Charles Darwin. Perfect for a rainy or sunny day by the seas, winter or summer.

“An Out of The Blue Surprise”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

At very short notice we met up with friends visiting from the USA who were only in Torquay for 24hrs so our itinery was limited. Their Hotel recommended Kents Cavern and booked us on a 3pm trip. What a nice suprise it was too. With a holiday home in Sidmouth we are regular visitors to the area and yet had never heard about Kents Cavern. It was a really lovely experience and guided by someone who really knew his stuff and made it all very interesting for us. Everything is just superb especially the safety and lighting aspect down in the caves. Well worth a visit although it is a bit expensive for a group or a family unit.

“Scientifically interesting”
Reviewed April 9, 2013 via mobile

A good place to visit which if you are an English Heritage member you will get in for half price! Had we not been I would have thought it quite expensive for the hour or so you get in the cavern. Our guide was good, he had a great personality and engaged well with the young people and was very informative.

I must admit I expected it to be bigger but the only other caverns I have been in are Wookie Hole so quite a lot smaller than this.

Worth a visit but it is only really an hour and is very science based so your kids need to like that and e good listeners.
