Owner description: Kents Cavern is by far Britain's most important prehistoric cave used by ancient humans for the last 500,000 years including Neanderthals and early modern humans. The caves are open every day for guide tours, 7 days a week with natural caverns, amazing natural formations, remains of mammoth, woolly rhino, sabre-toothed cats, an Ice Age woodland trail quest, nice shop and cafe with views over the Ilsham Valley. The closest hotel to the attraction is the Gleneagles, inspiration for TV's Fawlty Towers. We are 2km from Torquay Harbour and only 15 mins walk from the South West Coast Path and local beaches, well-known to previous visitors like Agatha Christie, Beatrix Potter, George V, Alfred Wallace and Charles Darwin. Perfect for a rainy or sunny day by the seas, winter or summer.

“Interesting place to go see”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

Brillant, I would have loved to have been able to climb some on the areas in the cave. The history of the cave is so informative and wished that when I was at school all history was as interesting.

“felt like a second class citizen”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

Got to the caves just after the tour set of so we had a bit of time to waste on arrival we booked the tickets to go on the next tour. After purchasing the tickets the restaurant and areas shut down fairly quickly we was then informed there was a wedding so there was no food or drinks available and got ushered outsider to wait. While we was waiting the place was transformed and people were turning up all in fancy outfits we and a few other tourists felt out of place as we was holidaying and just in general clothes. If I was told before hand I would have not bothered. Throughout the tour a felt like I was a second class citizen and that its tourists that keeps these caves open as they are the main cash flow asset not just a one of wedding every now and again. When the announcement came out to gather all of us up we entered into what was now a full reception going on with information and facts boards covered up by white sheeting and the first chamber transformed into a disco den rather than a cave I came to see. The caves are not really caves as when they was being execrated they used dynamite so its more like perfectly shames domes in which you can stand in and normal passage ways how ever there is only one room of any interest. While going round on the tour we were held up a few times by the wedding party. I cannot understand why they did not schedule this until after all the day to day running had been completed. Very unprofessional and would not recommend this to family or friends there better caves in and around the isles and are cheaper too. I can understand it might be fun for kids but that’s about it. Avoid at all costs

We certainly messed this one up for you and I can only apologise. I've discussed your comments with the senior management team in detail and we have changed our procedures to ensure this never happens again. 80 wedding guests arrived 1 hour early but that doesn't explain why we let you down on all the counts you list.
Our front of house staff should have read the situation better and been more focused on you as a valuable customer, as they were on the wedding guests.
Please try us again. If you can bring yourself to do so, let me know by email on caves@kents-cavern.co.uk before you come and we'll sort something out to leave you with a much better memory of Kents Cavern than the one you currently hold.

“Definitely one for our family”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

We all enjoyed this, our 4 year old loved it, listened to a good 90% of it which in all honesty, surprised me. Our tour guide was great and ultimately this was £20 very well spent.
