After a long tiring journey, we arrived at The Anchorage to be "greeted" by the same unwelcoming receptionist as last year, who always makes you feel as though you should not be there. She certainly has an attitude problem, gave us a key but we had to ask directions to the room. All the other staff were very friendly, cleaners, bar staff, waitresses. all lovely. The rooms were very clean, including public areas and the grounds. The meals were also very good. The hotel is in an ideal location for getting around either walking or car and public transport with regular buses into Torquay where connections can be found to Brixham,Paignton and Teignmouth.

We booked this hotel a couple of weeks before we was due to arrive, We arrived on the Monday only to be greeted at the desk by a lady who never smiles, she wasn't pleasant at all and said we havent got you down here, no u are not down. (i remember this lady from previous visits, she really should take a course in customer relations) In the end who i think was the manager came to see us he was much more pleasant and made arrangements for our room. The rooms are ok, but the food has realy gone down from our previous visits a few years ago, the meals aren't very good years ago it was a much better hotel. Don't think we will return

My wife and I together with one step daughter and one grand daughter recently made our annual pilgrimage to the Anchorage. Why do we keep going back? Because we love it! The staff are unbelievably helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The food has greatly improved over the last few years and represents excellent value for money. There is always a good selection to chose from. Our bedrooms were large, clean and regularly maintained although it is definitely worth making sure you get exactly what you want as apparently the rooms do vary. The outdoor heated swimming pool is small but never very busy which, for us, was also a great attraction. Where else can you get your very own private pool? Internet access varies depending on your choice of room, so again ask first if this is important to you. The entertainment is varied but isn't always suitable for children as one or two of the performers go beyond what we think is acceptable. The hotel mainly caters for coach parties, so again, if this is doesn't suit you, go elsewhere. For our part, we will be back again next year!

Ok – I am not going to slate the hotel – but I wouldn’t return and I wouldn’t recommend it .
Why not slate it – the staff are nice and very helpfull – and are responsive to requests.
What not return
The beds are not comfortable
The rooms are mega hot
The food is absolutely appalling – the worse I have ever had anywhere in the world– powdered soup – if you have meat its cut so thin(1 slice only and you can see the pattern of the plate through it)
Breakfast isn’t to bad – but just real cheap products.
If you expect quality this isn’t the place – however if you’re a crowd using it for a base going to eat out and go back for a late drink then its near enough – (but get bladdered as you wont sleep well)

My husband and I have just returned from a 5 day holiday at the Anchorage Hotel. We have had a fabulous 5 days. The management and staff were excellent with customers - nothing was too much trouble. I had contacted the hotel prior to our stay because it was my husband's birthday whilst we were there. The staff went out of their way to make it a superb birthday for him, and served him with a home made birthday cake, which was decorated and tasted beautiful.
We never had a problem at reception or the bar area - if we rang the bell, the staff came straightaway. The rooms were very clean, and the room staff came every day. I would definitely recommend to friends, and return there. A big thank you to all
