“Excellent break”
Reviewed July 29, 2011

Really enjoyed my three day break at the Anchorage Hotel. The room was nice and comfortable, spotlessly clean. The breakfast and evening meal excellently served and enjoyed and all lovely staff. The evening entertainment was good. Will be returning in the future. A peaceful, pleasant location, just a few minutes walk to the sea. Thanks to everyone at the Anchorage Hotel for a great time!

Nice ,well run hotel, used in the main during my visits by elderly coach parties, but served me well as a base as on business nearby, the rooms were clean but the decoration could do with a facelift, but when you consider what you are paying it is excellent value, the meals are with some choice and served quickly and efficiently, the reception staff are helpful and polite ,and at times there is evening entertainment laid on. Makes a change from the chain hotels where the rooms are identical and when you wake you could be anywhere in the country, there is a pool but I did not use it as it was too cold during my visit. some families stayed while i was there and seemed to enjoy their stay, being in Babbacombe away from the busy area of Torquay was good as there was no night time rowdyness and was easily accessible by car or bus,

We have recently returned from a four night break at the Anchorage Hotel. Our room was quite large and spacious, though I think one or two others are quite small. It was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good, although it is served on a rather small plate, which means things are piled on top of each other. A larger plate would be much better. We had quite a good 3 course evening meal, with four choices for each course. In general the food was good though, for me, one or two of the meals were a little bland. For the price we paid, we felt we had value for money. The hotel is about 5 mins walk from a bus route, which is very useful. We used the buses to go into Torquay and from there on to Paignton, Brixham and Plymouth. We also went to Teignmouth in the other direction.
All in all, I would recommend the Anchorage for a short break, giving value for money.

Loved the food, only problem it did appear to be very short staffed in the resturate at meal times, most that were there did a fantastic job.
Our waitress Lydia was lovely and allways served our table with a smile.

The evening duty manager Mathew Brierley made a big fuss over our room key, situation could of been handled with customer care in mind. He had a very responable job but no management skills that i could see. His attetude and mannerism left a lot to be desired.

Hotel was dated and tired looking, area was quite with lots of nice walks ect.

we arri ved at the anchorage with two other couples, the journey down bore no problems and when we arrived we were not overtired. we were met at the coach by the manager who as usual explained all the ins and outs including meal times to us, our cases removed from the coach and put inside our room . the room was spotlessly clean the bedding pristine white as was the bathroom and towels. after a quick was and brushup we went down for dinner were a member of staff greeted us and showed us our table for the duration of our stay, again the dining room was spotless, the choice of meals from starter to dessert were really good. we asked for a jug of water which was delivered prompt and did so for every meal we had afterwards. did we have a complaint ?, the service could have been a bit quicker than it was but it wasnt that bad enough to moan about. the entertainment was pretty good and most of our party were up dancing every evening (i cant dance), there was an elderly guy he was 86 from lincoln who got up every night and "danced" on his own and he was entertaining by himself. i remember the people from stoke on trent being picked up we were on the same coach with "just go" our driver brian took care of us the whole holiday
the review by ritabarter!!! did he go to the same place as us ? some people expect to get five star treatment with three start money
would i go again, too right , we all would we had a great time

Room Tip: we had room 54 the view was of the side of the property rooms at the front have views of the park, b...
