For my wife’s birthday I thought I would surprise her with a weekend away. Looking at hotels in Torquay I came across the REW web site and having read some of the guest reviews decided to stay at the Corbyn Head Hotel. There was a deal for DBB and whilst it was expensive at nearly £200 per night I thought as it was a special occasion decided to go ahead and book. On arrival we were met by a friendly receptionist named Karen who gave us directions to the room. The hotel is old with narrow corridors that resemble a rabbit warren with lots of steps. When we eventually arrived at the room the disappointment on my wife’s face said it all.
The carpet was old and dirty with more ripples than the sea. The paint was flaking all over, the shower was weak and full of lime with no soap included, the walls were marked, and it resembled a very shabby Travelodge that we stayed in America some 15 years ago!
To be fair, the food was ok. However everyone who worked in the restaurant couldn’t speak very good English and trying to order was an ordeal.
I take my hat off to whoever did their website as the photos in no way resemble the reality. To say we couldn’t wait to get away from this hotel or Torquay is an understatement, NEVER AGAIN!!!More
