“Great value”

I took a coach party of 33 people to this hotel on 9th - 15 Sept 2007, which proved to be a great experience.
The food was excellent, the staff very helpfull, and the evening entertainment was good as well
Rooms were a mixed bag, but - apart from one room - were all to an acceptable standard, clean and well equipped. The one room in question was too small for a double bed, but the staff arranged a transfer to another room which was larger, but very warm.
This hotel is being refurbished, which when completed, will make it an excellent place to stay. Magnificent views over Torbay, and a small private beach added to the positive experience.

I stayed in this hotel whilst reviewing Hotel Fire safety in the South West and this was the worst hotel that I stayed in.
As a professional fire and safety consultant I always inspect the fire safety arrangements in every hotel that I stay in and the problems that I identified here were as follows:

1. Locked Fire Exit.
2. Unprotected Fire Escapes - these may not have been usable in the event of a fire.
3. Fire Doors that were not self closing.
4. Obstructed Fire Exit.
5. Poorly fitting Fire Doors
6. Badly corroded Fire Escape
7. Incorrect Fire Exit signs
8. Mattress Store with no Fire Door on dead end escape.

I would normally write to the hotel and point out the failings but as these were so serious I contacted the Chief Fire Officer and an immediate inspection was carried out and the hotel was made to carry out immediate work in order to carry on trading.

Took 3 rooms here last year and was disappointed in 2 of them. This was a tired building that needs much done to improve. Staff and food were reasonably good however.
I received a brochure today From Rew Hotels - advertising this and two others nearby - have they taken it over? HOWEVER, how come in a year the hotel now has a forest scene behind it - all green trees (picture on back of brochure). - Its not how I remember it!!! Use of Photoshop to doctor pictures is fraudulent in my book!

Stayed just for two nights, had a good feeling when we arrived as the lobby/Reception area seemed very nice. Had some wait to check in whilst the Receptionist finished a phone call from a previous guest obviously complaining!
We had booked a sea-view room at £170 a night (b&b) so expected a fairly decent room, we didn't get that! We had room no. 26, a room on the side of the hotel so a partial see view through old net curtains. The room looked and smelt as though it had not been decorated since the early 80's, it was clean enough just old, tired, shabby and the curtains, bedding, wall paper and carpet clashed horrendously. The atmosphere at the Hotel, in general, was like a nursing home.
We didn't complain, we laughed about it whilst we were there, we thought that maybe most Torquay hotels followed this tacky style. It was when we got home and I looked at the Hotel website again and saw the pictures of the so-called "stylish" rooms and pretty pool-side area - then I saw red! I'd rather spend £30 a night in a little b&b than line the pockets of this hotel - never again! Do not truast what the pictures on the website look like, you may end up with an un-refurbished room like we did, you will be extremely disapointed.

Excellent location between main road and sea so half of rooms look out directly onto Torbay. Rooms vary in size and best to select larger, refurbished room. Four course dinner is good quality and good value when taken as Dinner, Bed and Breakfast package. Staff attentive and helpful.

  • Liked — Location. Many good rooms. Good dinner
  • Disliked — Beware one or two small rooms

My husband was unable to share the break with me and it was the first time I had booked into a hotel alone which was a little daunting. The warm and freindly welcome I received from the very proffessional and immaculately dressed staff put me at my ease at once. The gentlemen sported fresh red carnations in their buttonholes
The furnishings and decor added to the charm of this super hotel which has breathtaking sea views.
I had booked B.B.D and at dining times I was greeted and served by extremely pleasant and well groomed staff. Breakfast was freshly prepared and the dinner menu choice was very pleasing and enjoyable.
We have stayed in many hotels both in England and Europe with higher star ratings but the Livermead Cliff is second to none.
If your enjoy courtesy, consideration and cheerfulness along with comfort and culinary delights , don't hesitate to book !
Congratulations Mr Mark Lockwood -Lee your hotel and staff do you proud.
Many thanks 19th-22nd-03-07

Whilst staying for three nights at the Livermead Cliff Hotel for the 2006/7 new year we were impressed by the informal and friendly manner of the managment and staff, and with the excellent cuisine and service.

We felt that we couldn't have been looked after better and really enjoyed our stay.
