We chose The Grand for a weekend stay in February last year. Ages ago, I know, but I am finally getting around to writing up last year's reviews!
The location is so so, it is directly in front of the train station, which will appeal to some people, but it is a fair 20min walk into the centre of Torquay for restaurants, shops etc. I didn't mind this as I rather enjoyed the walks along the seafront but I can imagine others will prefer to be closer to town. There is car parking at the hotel, though there are limited spaces. Thankfully we were lucky enough to find a space straight away, though in the summer months I bet it would be tricky.
The entrance to the hotel is very, aptly, grand. You feel as though it is going to be a nice place as soon as you enter the main doors. Once inside, the hotel is a bit of a maze! Our room was on the ground floor, facing the back of the building and there were so many corridors to walk along to get there. I loved the main dining room/lounge area. We had afternoon tea on one of the sofas overlooking the sea and drinks in the evening, accompanied by a singer. It felt very old fashioned and traditional, but in a nice way. We briefly visited the swimming pool downstairs, however it was so hot down there we did not stay long.
All in all a lovely stay. Would return and recommend to others.
