Awful, awful service, if not dirty pig, no maintenance, tiny rooms, smell of wet and Staff lousy, not worth even better as a museum board for the horrors Do not be fooled A waste of time and money

We have stayed at this hotel before and we where not let down on this visit. We stayed here with our 11 year old son who loved the pool and our room. We had a sea view and it's worth paying the extra as the view across the bay is outstanding. We booked for evening meals as part of our deal and we enjoyed every dish and breakfast is really good to. The staff were really helpfull right from the moment we arrived, from the lady on reception to the resturant staff and housekeeping. We parked our car in the hotels garage and there it stayed until we checked out as the hotel has a bus stop right outside and we also used the train to go to paignton. This hotel is in a great location especially if you dont want to use your car during your stay. It has great atmosphere and lots of history, it does need updating in some area's but as a family I felt at ease as this is not a stuffy hotel. As I said in a previous review " this is a grand old lady and you will have a grand time. Hope to return very soon.

The staff at the hotel were excellent, we had a Polish waitress for breakfast and evening meal she was very high calibre. The food was excellent they clearly have a very good chef, who takes a lot of pride in his work. I don't like to be too picky, but the hotel does need some investment , for example there was sticky tape on the stair carpet and some of the chairs in the lounge had seen better days. That is offset by the high calibre of management and staff who were excellent . The room we had was a little noisy, we were woken by early morning deliveries etc, but luckily I can tune that out. The bathroom and shower were very clean. My message to Richardson Hotels is c'mon guys don't let the staff down, spend a little money on this place.

I'm pleased you enjoyed the service and food at the hotel. Our Executive Chef and his team take pride in their cookery and presentation of dishes, using locally sourced goods where possible. The team will very much appreciate your kind comments.

The hotel has upcoming plans for refurbishment, which will see our suites, functions rooms and a portion of guest rooms refurbished; these refurbishments are planned for January 2012. Plans are already underway by our in house upholstery team to refit our Compass Lounge chairs and sofas. The carpet on the main staircase and foyer is due to be refitted in the near future.

The room was comfortable, light, freshly decorated and spacious. The location was fantastic as we came by train and it was directly opposite the station. Our room overlooked the station but train noise was never an issue. It was a pleasant, interesting level walk into the town centre. The hotel facilities were excellent and the staff were very friendly and polite. The breakfast was amazing, buffet style but the quality was excellent. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family and will return.

When we booked this room we were told the room was inland facing, if we were told in fact the inland facing was a brick wall & there was a very noisy air conditioning unit outside our window that could not shut! i would never have booked this hotel! We did asked to be moved but they couldn't oblige, we did also email the duty manger only to be told "when we stay again (not likely) we will try to up grade you"! wow big deal!
The stay at the hotel was supposed to be a special time for us (40th wed anniversary) but was totally ruined by this experience.

Thank you kindly for your review. I was disappointed to read about your recent experience with us and I apologise for being unable to meet your requests given during your stay. Where possible we do our upmost to abide to customer requests but on this occassion it seems those requests were not met.

Our air conditioning units and extractor fans are set to turn off at 23:00 so that fan noise does not impact sleep. By setting this a large majority of guests do not ever experience any issues in regards to fan noise. I am surprised to read the fan noise had such an impact.

I hope you otherwise enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere found at The Grand Hotel.
