“The Riviera Touch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013

Another of our many trips to Barcelo/Puma Hotels. We have now had three trips here the most recent with our 5 year old grandson. We are Leisure club members and had booked a sea view room. We didnt have to pay a penny for our grandson. On arrival we were upgraded as we always are with our memebership - to a suite! WOW!!! two bedroms, two bathrooms and ahuge luxurious living area. Unfortunately my grandson thinks all hotels will be like this now! I am always impressed with our room, the service and great breakfasts at the hotel. First class all along the Riviera!!

Several years ago, we stayed here in a nice suite with fabulous views over the bay. As we had business in Torquay on Saturday, we decided to stay over and book into this hotel.
On our previous visit, the hotel was up for sale, so we hoped that its new owners would have invested time and money in bringing this old Dame back to what it could have been. WRONG!!
It appears it has had several new owners, and rather like a poor old cart horse, it's been flogged to death!
We didn't bother with a suite, as we were only stopping one night, so we just had a sea view double. It was tired, dirty and we couldn't wait to get out!!
We went down to breakfast; which had always been a good experience - well trained, friendly staff.
It started badly when the women seating us called my partner 'sweetheart'. This is in the same camp as 'darling', 'dear' and 'love' as far as he is concerned. Possibly allowable in a B&B, but not welcomed from a resteraunt manager (same person as booked us in on reception the night before - short staffed??) of a large hotel.
The breakfast was all buffet style, and having looked at the state of the things on offer, I decided to stick with toast, as it was probably the 'cleanest' option!

We got out as quickly as possible; enough said!

Room Tip: Don't go! (Unless you have a REALLY cheap rate and eat somewhere else!

I chose this Hotel as a result of a previous stay , there was an advert in the paper for Valentines break which included Dinner Bed and Breakfast including a Bottle of Sparkling Wine in your room. On arrival after a terrible journey through the rain we were greeted by a very friendly, helpful and efficient Reception by the name of James , who sorted our booking upgraded our room form premium to deluxe with balcony and arranged for our Sparkling wine in our room. Beautiful huge room with all facilities spotlessly clean and well presented [ although a little tired in some areas ]. The facilities at the hotel are excellent and the food is top notch. In fact the evening meal on Valentines was accompanied by a complementary Glass of Champagne, a live Singer to keep couples in the mood and an excellent meal perfectly presented . All the food including breakfast was top notch !!. All staff we met including Chambermaid, Restaurant Staff and Reception were exceptional well presented and mannered a credit to the Hotel management. We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay and look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Go for a premium as the views over Torquay bay are fantastic.

Having been to The Imperial many years ago when the company paid the bill we decided to go there for a Valentine break. The hotel is as i remembered. This is a proper hotel, some may say old fashioned but from the initial reception, to the bar, restaurant and anything else the staff were brilliant. The breakfast although self service was the best I've ever had. Yes perhaps the hotel and bedrooms could use a lick of paint or re papering but its still quality, and quality will always sell.
The only negative is having to pay for the car park?????????? It leaves a sour taste.

Room Tip: Try for the balcony room as a upgrade ....well worth it for spectacular views.

Cannot fault this Hotel at all, just got bak from a weekend break the hotel was spotless staff friendly espicially Samantha Hayes credit to the hotel. Had a complimentary room upgrade which was very much apreciated, the views across Torbay were stunning. We were lucky with the weather which for this time of the year can't be faulted. Breakfast had everything you could want and with no shortage or limits. Friday nights meal was also very good. Did not get the chance to experience the health suite, pool or sauna as we wanted to get out and about and see Paignton & Brixham but next time we will take advantage of the facilities.

Room Tip: Only 5 mins walk to Torquay Harbour

We stayed for one night in a delux premier room, WOW what a room, huge room with balcony and sea view, I reckon the bed was 8ft wide! there was a seperate lobby with wardrobes and a door leading off into the bathroom. The decor is in keeping with the furniture which is traditional rather than modern (i mention this only because some reviewers say it's dated). I expect a good standard and I was not disapppointed. The service was second to none, the staff are so obliging and went the extra mile to ensure my dietary requirements were accomodated. We had a 3 course meal in the Regatta restaurant, a varied selection at reasonable prices. I had the beef bourguignon, it was succulent and very tasty, portion size was large. We have decided we will be going back!

Room Tip: We had room 426

It looks like a multistory car park from the front reception, but don't let that fool you, its immaculate inside, the staff are wonderful and the views over the sea stunning, good to see an English Beach-side Hotel with some class, well done!

Room Tip: Higher floor as you can go with the sea view, stunning I was in 268? I think?
