“A hotel with fantastic views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2012

Stayed at this hotel for our Christmas works bash.

Hotel is in a great position and only two mins from the town centre.

We upgraded to a suite and we were not disappointed, the bedroom was very large and we had the benefit of a large four poster bed, a large TV screen and plenty of hanging space, with a large window and balcony. The bathroom was very spacious and the ware and fittings were in excellent condition, with a separate shower enclosure from the large bath. The best was still to come when we entered the large front room, complete with Sofa, large chairs and a small Hi-Fi, but the highlight was the views over the bay, absolute fantastic, and well worth the upgrade itself.

We dined twice in the hotel, and were never disappointed with either meal, and breakfast was just as good, with a large selection to choose from.

The only negative point I would raise was on the Saturday evening when the hotel was extremely busy, the meal was served over a longer period than should have, and the bar was totally inadequate for the numbers trying to obtain a drink.

Would return again, and definitely recommend a room upgrade if available.

Keep up the good work

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view, the views are fantastic.

were invited to a promotion for p -o cruises we had a lovely afternoon tea of scones jam and cream, small sandwiches, and lovely assorted cakes only fault is that no tea pots were on each table and everyone had to go up to a table to be served with tea from a flask which somehow spoilt the image . i am thinking of taking my club for valentines day again for tea but need to make sure they remember. as last year they forgot to tell the chef and nothing was ready ,but if they get it right it the tea is superb.

Room Tip: rooms on sea side have super views

The hotel has a fantastic location with wonderful sea views, the staff are lovely and welcoming and a great selection for breakfast. Also the rooms are tidy and spacious.

However there are parts of the hotel that are looking a little' tired; this us particularly noticeable in the dining room where the fabric on he chairs is torn and threadbare.

Despite this it is still a hotel worth visiting.

Lots of really lovely, friendly staff who are really happy to help you, great breakfast, 10 function rooms so great venue for a party, lovely location and great views but a little tired. The building exterior lets the grandure in side down, lovely original coving and beautiful chandelliers. All the main function rooms are beautiful. However, the bedrooms are tired. Holes in the sheets, old cleaning label on my pillow, pealing wallpaper, no fridge, rickerty furniture, tiny bathroom, towels / bathrobes clean but well worn. I don't think it would take a lot to put some new life in this old girl. Four star but not sure the rooms are worth it or the price.

We spent a 3-night break there to celebrate a friend's birthday. As other reviewers have pointed out, there are some distinct weaknesses, and can't help feeling it could be much better with a makeover and attention to certain details (such as time checking in/out).
However, the view from sea view rooms is brilliant, and I would consider it the best-located hotel in Torquay, a fairly easy walk to the town centre.
Criticisms: decor looks tired: some of room furniture wouldn't be out of place in a museum; breakfast varied from the sublime (on the first morning, so we came to expect it) to the haphazard, running out of toast, mushrooms etc. We didn't dine there so can't comment on this aspect, but out of season (as we were) the bar area can look funereal: entirely devoid of atmosphere (perhaps not something than can easily be rectified).

Room Tip: Sea view is magnificent: best thing about the hotel.

....make sure it is The Imperial Hotel because you will find it difficult to be disappointed, believe me! On arrival, staff on reception were very welcoming and I was upgraded to a sea-facing room with a balcony that had breath-taking views across the harbor and entire bay. The room was furnished to a lovely standard that was befitting of a hotel the exudes that quintessentially English charm, whilst maintaining just enough modern touches to keep up with the times. Breakfast was lovely, with so many choices of food, and was served in the main restaurant that overlooked the bay; staff were helpful and attentive, yet discrete enough to allow one to enjoy the whole dining experience at a leisurely pace. All in all, I had a wonderful few days that I could not find fault with; I will most definitely be returning.
