“Family Treat”
Reviewed August 15, 2012

Couldn't fault the service, location or food. The staff were all very helpful, smiling and professional. Although an older hotel, it still holds it's charm and splendour; the public areas are wonderful, the view from the restaurant fantastic - I only wish I'd had time to try the leisure facilties. I hope no one tries to change it to a modern glass and chrome monstrosity. I would definitely visit again.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view.

By far the best thing about the Imperial is its panoramic view of Torbay. It's a good class of hotel. The public areas are spacious, impressive and well maintained. My room was large, with a queensize bed, balcony overlooking the bay, sun beds and a good sized bathroom. All this for £72 per night B&B. The service and attention to detail did leave a lot to be desired. The waste bin in my room still had the previous occupent's rubbish, and there was no coffee or tea in the room. I had to call reception 3 times to get these supplies and it took 30 minutes to arrive. The buffet breakfast, too, was disappointing. The food was of a very good quality but, as can be the case with breakfast buffets when poor service standards are endemic, every item was lukewarm and had been hanging around for too long.
But, and I really must stress this, the quality of the room and the views make up for the poor service levels, and because of that I would readily stay again - especially at that sort of price.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view!

Had a great time, The room was fantastic, could not use the balcony as it was being repaired which was a shame as the view was fantastic.

The Staff were all very professional and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Will be going back in the near future.
The room was very large and well apointed.and the dining was very good. The drinks were a bit expesnsive but thats UK hotels for you.

Room Tip: Negotiate the price when you book up.

let's get one thing straight - the Imperial Hotel is not part of some ultra modern, built and staffed by robots hotel chain. It's old, very old. It smells old and it looks old. A lot of the guests are old and some of them have dogs on jewel encrusted leads. The hotel is not filthy. If age and filth were the same thing half the population would be rancid. The staff are polite and well dressed and the facilities are excellent. The hotel reminded me of The Overlook in The Shining.- grand, imposing, slightly sinister in the dark. The scale of it is incredible, no-one in their right mind would build a place like this nowadays, there is more marble on the ground floor than there is in most cathedrals. So the furniture is lived in and sat on, big deal. Get over it or go to the Ramada - but if you do your room will be one tenth the size.

My husband and i have just got home after a lovely weekend at this hotel ! first impression was the outside could do with a new coat of paint ! but once inside that was forgotten ! check-in was quick and reception staff very friendly ! our room was lovely ! very big ! plenty of space ! 2 twin beds (pushed together girls ?) and over-looking the bay which was quite lovely !! tea/coffee making fascility and a nice T.V sat in the corner !! the bathroom was quite big too ! complimentary toiletries and 4 nice fluffy towels ! only one niggle ! the shower wasn't very powerful but what the heck !! we went out for a meal sunday night and there's plenty of choices of places to eat and drink !
There's an outside pool and a very nice play area for children ! also an indoor pool which my husband used along with the steam room/jacuzzi !!
Breakast was very nice !! plenty of choices ! the hot food Was hot ! and the cold selection WAS cold !!
All in all this is a good quality 4* hotel !! would we stay here again !! absolutely !! if you decide to give it a try ! we hope you enjoy it as we did.

Room Tip: ask for a "Sea View" it's well worth it !

Superb room with wonderful view of Torbay. Restaurant food 5 star and excellent service from happy staff throughout the hotel. Must agree with some other reviewers a lot of the public areas are looking tired and need refurbishment but our room was excellent. Come on Puma Hotels for the prices you charge you could afford to update!

Room Tip: Deluxe double have wonderful views.

On arrival the reception staff were helpful. There was a problem with our room so we were given a complimentary drink and a temporary room so we could get on with our day and not miss out. We were so pleased with the facilities and the the views in the deluxe room were beautiful. Every aspect of the hotel were magnificent. The breakfast was spot on with a various choices. We also got to look out across the bay from the restaurant. Overall I would defiantley visit again.
