Hanbury's is a long standing Restaurant with multiple awards for Fish and Chips in the South-West.There is a car-park very close by with the high promenade of Babbacombe a stone's throw away. The main menu is largely traditional fish and chips but more sophisticated poached fish dishes are also available and also burgers and gammon for those who don't want fish. The tables are a little cramped but the general atmosphere is pleasant and there are objects of interest.the prices are a little high but justified by the excellent quality. My family have visited this restaurant frequently over the years and never had a bad experience.

We stopped in Torquay for the Easter Weekend as we do most years and lasy year we found Hanbury's so this was our second visit and once again we had a sumptious meal. After a slight mix up with our booking which was handled very efficiently by a lovely young lady we ordered our meal and drinks and didn't have long to wait before the meal was served, piping hot and lots of it. The staff are really friendly, and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. As it is very popular it is advisable to book in advance so as not to be disappointed.

We had been to Hanbury's before for a family lunch.

The service was friendly. Comfortable screened booth. We ordered what we wanted. Menu is comprehensive but no problem just ordering fish and chips. The food arrived and tartare sauce was brought without fuss. Fish and chips excellent. Decent portions. Fresh, hot, tasty. Not cheap, but good value.

My daughter lives in Torquay and we always come here when we visit. I started by reading the negative responses on this site since we have been here on numerous occasions and have never had anything but good food and good service. The place does get busy as it is very popular but the staff cope very well and are friendly and helpful. It is best to book in advance but they will do their best to fit you in if it is possible. Sometimes it isn't. Small portions? Not that I've ever seen. Greasy atmosphere ? They must have been in a different restaurant this one is nicely decked-out. We will be visiting my daughter again in May and will definitely be coming to Hanburys.

We were staying in Torquay and wanted to sample fresh fish and chips. We were not disappointed. In our party of four we all had something different, from haddock in batter to mixed platter of breadcrumbed seafood. All was beautifully cooked, piping hot and delicious. We had sides of mushy peas and squid rings. All portions were generous and flavoursome. The service was very good and the complimentary filtered water was a nice touch. The wine list was a good reflection of drinkable wines. Too full up for a pudding, but will definitely visit here next time we're in the West Country. Parking near by in a pay and display car park.
