“Excellent break”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

I stayed here with my sister for a relaxing break. Jackie and Dave welcomed us as if we were old friends. We could not of wished for a better room or food. The menu for evening meal was varied, and whatever we ordered was cooked and prepared to perfection. Everything was done to ensure our comfort and pleasure, Jackie really went the extra mile for us

Room Tip: The twin room we had was up a flight of stairs but a twin room is available on the ground floor if t...

I stayed here overnight with my lad as we had come to watch Leicester City play Torquay United, the ground being only a couple of minutes up the road.
We were greeted by our host's, Jackie and Dave upon our arrival, and were immediately made to feel welcome.
Our room was spotlessly clean and the breakfast in the morning was great as well.
Jackie and Dave provided us with information on how to get to the harbour and provided us with relevant taxi information in case we were not up to the 10 minute walk.
A lovely guest house that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to other visiting football fans because of it's close proximity to Plainmoor and to anyone wanting to be well looked after in an obviously well cared for house.

Thank you Mr Chilled. It's knowing our guests appreciate what we do for them that helps us get through the not so good times. Come and see us again sometime.

We were staying here as we were going to watch Leicester City play Torquay at Plainmoor, which was literally just a two minute walk down the road, so for us the location was excellent! This guesthouse is a little bit out of the town of Torquay, but it is walkable although it is a steep walk back! Babbacombe is a little nearer and a much easier walk and I recommend The Buccaneer pub for its meals and real ales.
The owners, Jackie & Dave, at Abberley Guest House could not be more welcoming (cup of tea and chat on arrival!) and helpful throughout our stay with plenty of advice on the surrounding area and things to see and do. The rooms were small but very well presented and perfectly adequate for our short stay. I would thoroughly recommend this guest house to anyone looking for a stay in Torquay.

Upon arrival we received a warm welcome from the host & was offered a cup of tea. It was nice to speak to the owners & see how they'd progressed the guest house under their tenure.

The room was more than acceptable, bathroom finished to a high standard; just the job really. The bathroom was a little small, but I guess you can only make it as big as the space you have. Ultimately, it would NOT put me off from staying here again.

Although the location is quite a distance from Torquay on foot, the town of Babbacombe was grand. Nice beaches & only a couple of minutes walk from the guesthouse.

We stayed here to watch Leeds United at Plainmoor. The ground is only a couple of minutes away by foot. This, in my opinion, makes it ideal for football fans staying over.

Overall, I would stay here again. The hospitality was great & the room was more than adequate.

Keep up the good work!

Thank you for your appreciation of our efforts. The bathroom may be smaller than some but as you say you can only work within the space available but a small bathroom is better than no bathroom and it has all the necessary facilities.

Excellent.... this is how i would like to start of my review. My husband and I booked this guest house, last minute for our two day stay in this area. What a lovely couple the owners are. We were made to feel so welcome. We have not been to this area before and we normally go straight to tourist information when we arrive somewhere new but we didn't need to as our hosts gave us maps and suggestions on places to go. The hotel is in an excellent location for both Babbacombe (10 min walk) and Torquay (15 min walk). The owners had even taken the time to type out directions of how to get to both places from the hotel. We didn't want to spend too much on a room as we were touring, this was one of the reasons we chose this guest house due to cost but we couldn.t believe how clean and nicely decorated it was, we got a real bargain. If we ever go to this part of the UK again, we would definately book this guest house again. Thank you for our lovely welcome. Janita and David Faulkner - Huddersfield

Just got back from a 3 night stay and we're glad we chose Abberley a pity we didn't do the whole week but we certainly want to return. Jackie and Dave are great hosts always willing to chat and give advice on the surrounding area (Dave- I managed to do the review much quicker than my bathroom took in my house!). We can repeat the excellent comments of other reviewers spotlessly clean, comfortable, quiet no problem for us with the en-suite door on the ground floor double room! On street parking close by no problem. Babbacombe is within easy walking distance about 20-30 minutes just keep on walking down Reddenhill Road about 30 yards up Windsor Road along the left as you leave the front door of the guest house Babbacombe is basically behind the guest house. If you want Torquay walk the 30 yards to the left but cross over the road as if walking away from the front of the guest house down where the sign saying central area 3/4 mile points, it is quite a hilly treck down to Torquay coming back up is a task but if one likes walking it is fine. A tip is drive down as far as possible and park down Ellacombe Church Road in the part with no parking restrictions it saves much of the steep walk back up between there and the guest house. If you don't like a walk there are buses and taxis Jackie and Dave can advise on those. A £2 return ferry goes from Torquay North Quay to Brixham- well worth doing. St. Mary's is worth a visit we found it on the way home visiting the fishmonger by the church Jackie told us about where we got the crab meat my wife was looking for. I'll shut up now or end up writing a guidebook for the area! Thanks both we'll be back as soon as possible. Mark & Gai :)

Thank you Mark for your kind comments. It was a pleasure having you stay with us. If it took you thirty minutes to get to Babbacombe, I don't know which route you took to get there, I can walk there in about ten minutes.

First impressions....amazing in every way! My daughter and I received a very warm welcome and felt very relaxed straight away. Room was perfect in size and was beautifully clean. Breakfast was great and owners very accommodating to additional/medical needs which was a blessing. Location was great as it was within walking distance of Beach, plenty of pubs and hotels for evening drinks and relaxation etc. Will definitely stay there again next time we're in the area and will highly recommend it to friends heading down that way.
