I have never written a review for trip advisor before, because I have never needed to. But Richard's hotel is quite possibly one of the best I have ever stayed in. I often worry when booking a hotel or B&B as you never know what you are going to get. But I can guarantee that this is the nicest hotel. The warmest welcoming, a beautiful room which contains every thing you will need for a long stay or one night, a lovely laid out breakfast in the beautiful conservatory. You also have full use of the house, as Richard lives next door, so you can use the kitchen, dining room and sitting room for what ever you like!
I work away and stay in three or four hotel's a week, and I am adding extra time on to my journey, just to come back to stay in Rutland lodge! I am back on my way and looking forward to it!

The best B&B we have ever stayed in. The plus for us was the (super!) kitchen where we could heat up a pizza in the evening and eat it in the Victorian conservatory. Richard was warm and welcoming and we would have no hesitation in returning when we visit Torquay again. Loved the homemade bread too!

Lovely house with clean comfortable rooms that have all you need. Torquay town centre is a short walk away but there are also shops close by in Wellswood. The service was second to none, Richard & Ali made us feel really welcome, nothing was too much trouble & we had the best 2 nights sleep ever. I would not hesitate to return & would strongly recommend to anyone.

My wife and I stayed 13th & 14th Aug '10 as we were attending a wedding. Unable to book a room at the wedding venue so we scouted for B&B's nearby. So glad we did as Rutland Lodge exceeded the 5* Manor where the ceremony took place. We were impressed from the second we walked through the garden gate! A beautifully renovated early Victorian house with original features.

We were greeted by Ali who checked us in and made us feel welcome immediately. When we had been shown our room we just stood there grinning at each other. A fabulous en-suite room with fine furnishings decorated to a superior finish.
The breakfast room is stunning. The original 1850 conservatory complete with grape vine growing inside.

Richard, the owner, is a wonderful, charming host with a wealth of information about the house's history and Torquay itself.
Agree with all the other reviews - Richard is welcoming and informative but knows exactly that this is your holiday and never intrudes.

Would not hesitate in returning (planning already and we only got home 4 hours ago!) and will be recommending Rutland Lodge to everyone.

Thank you Richard and Ali.

What a wonderful place to stay. The owner Richard was so welcoming and friendly. We had everything we needed and more. The kitchen was a blessing with a small child. The decor was stunning and the period features with a modern twist felt like luxury. We stayed in the family room on the ground floor. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed was the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in. Nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be returning to Rutland Lodge!. Well done Richard!
