“Our stay at the cavendish hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2014

We have just returned from a weekend stay at the Cavendish hotel in Torquay. I am a seasoned traveller who has stayed at some of the top end hotels both here in the UK and abroad. We just wanted a quick get away so selected the Cavendish for its location. I have read the some of the recent reviews and find it must unfair of the negative comments some people have written. The Cavendish is a little tired in overall appearance but understand the owners are working hard to upgrade areas. However this did not affect the warmth and welcome from both the management and staff on our arrival to departure. The rooms were clean and comfortable with clean fresh towels and hot water. The meals (breakfast and evening meals) were hot, plentiful with a fair choice range. There was entertainment n both evenings with bar and comfortable seating areas to relax. The best part is total value for money. My advice to those providing the negative comments is to go and spend £100/200 per night. Yes you may get the fancy frills but doubt you would get the warmth and value as this hotel offers in such a lovely location. It's very easy to moan and complain but remember what you are actually paying - not a huge amount for what you actually get. Keep up the good work Cavendish. We will be happy to return. Thank you

By the sound of your Review you obviously do not stay in hotels very much. Tea/Coffee is provided each day in your room if you require extra then we do charge for this. The A la Carte extras offered in the Restaurant are in addition to the full choice of menu provided if you are on a Dinner, Room and Breakfast stay. We constantly receive praise for Our Full English Breakfast choices. We are not aware of any threadbare carpets anywhere in the hotel. Bedding is not changed daily in accordance with our ETB 2* rating (We were inspected in February and were rated as high end 2 star bordering 3*). We did have notices displayed Apologising for the damage caused by the storms in February which created some damp areas. However, these areas were not let to guests and should not have affected your stay. At our Welcome Speech we asked that if Guests had any problems whatsoever they should bring them to our attention and we would do our best to rectify. We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay. Kind Regards

We used the hotel as part of a brass band staying over for a contest on 7 - 9 Mar 14 so there were appox 30 of us to attend to. There was another coach party staying and other bands visited to practice. We were very pleasantly surprised in a positive way on the attentiveness of the staff, offers of assistance and the waiting staff in the restaurant. The scouse West Country waiter knows who he is. The rooms were certainly acceptable for our short stay and the asking price. The food was excellent value and the acceptance to alter things for a Gluten free diet was admirable.
Thanks for the stay and we plan to back next year.

I stayed with a coach party at this hotel and was terribly disappointed with the single room offered. I did see some of the twin and double rooms and they were far superior. I voiced my complaint to reception and they did offer me two other single rooms but they were both worse than the original so I declined them. My room was seriously in need of refurbishment, having stained and cracked ceiling, old woodchip walls covering old cracks and wallpaper covering more cracks and peeling off. The bathroom was horrible with an old bath and exposed pipes everywhere. I did not enjoy my stay. As usual single people are penalised with a surcharge for inferior accommodation. The access to my room was also in poor condition, with cracked walls and ceilings and cheap doors. The indoor pool although warm was in a poor condition and I was not tempted by a swim although I usually swim 3 times a week. I was pleased to leave.

Room Tip: Avoid single rooms

We are sorry you were unhappy with your room. We are currently re-decorating the single rooms, 6 have been completed and 3 more pending. Incidentally, the Hotel itself does not charge a single supplement this was dropped a couple of years ago. Kind Regards

If you want a relaxing holiday in clean, comfortable and friendly surroundings visit the
Cavendish. Stayed at this hotel from 10-14 March and wish we could have stayed longer.
My husband and I went with four friends and we all agreed that it was one of the best holidays we have had. Our rooms were well-decorated and spotlessly clean, the food in the restaurant was very good and sufficient choice for all our needs and the restaurant staff were very efficient. Must say - compliments to the chef! One highlight of our stay was a trip to Babbacombe Theatre - a must if you like good music and dancing. It was a long journey from the North-East but well worth it. Thank you to the Manager and staff for looking after us so well.

Cavendish

Room Tip: Ask for room 128! Spacious, well-decorated and a beautiful view!

we stayed here for the weekend as part of our skittles weekend, as there were several people in our team i had looked at a few rooms, all of them were very clean, the single rooms were in need of modernization but nothing more. the rest of the hotel was fine and the downstairs was well decorated. the food was very nice and the portion sizes were good too, our waitress was amazing and along with the rest of the staff, were very friendly and helpful. the only one thing that was a slight problem was that their was a new bar for the ballroom, it wasnt sufficiently stocked, and could have done with an extra bar tender as we hadto wait quite a long time to get a drink. we thoroughly enjoyed the stay and i would have no hesitation in staying again.

My wife and I plus our 7 year old foster child stayed here during the half - term week and had a really enjoyable time. The hotel did look in need of a bit of TLC from the main road but inside the room was good, the staff were all excellent and the food alone was worth the price we paid. We made full use of the heated indoor pool, the location was ideal with just a short stroll down to the quay and beach, and its quite central for many attractions. Reading some of the previous unfair comments I would have thought they must have stayed somewhere else. Very good value for money!
