“Quality Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2013

Great service & friendly staff. Wonderful freshly cooked food, with a super choice. Fab wine selection too! Our group varied in what menu we all picked from, many of us enjoying the Express Menu, two courses at £10.95. Delicious hot food, presented beautifully. Relaxed & fun atmosphere. Will be visiting this restaurant again :0)

“Very good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2013

Good food, good service, good choice! Innovative food with a familiar feel. Freshly cooked, perfectly cooked, good range, plenty of flavours. We went for the Express Dining menu (5-7pm). Very good value £10.95 for 2 courses and no compromise on flavour or quality versus the main menu. Refreshingly the vegetarian options were innovative, excellent and flavour-full. But equally impressive was the service, which was perfect. Just the right level if attentiveness, put us at our ease, friendly yet professional. It was unusual to have the waiter pay such attention to detail. For example he over heard us discussing the best options for food allergy sufferer in our party and advised us carefully throughout the meal and made sure the meal was cooked differently to accommodate this. And was happy to do so- very unusual in UK!! would be very pleased to go again and hope this business has the continued success it deserves.

“Very disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2013

Having eaten here numerous times on visits to Plymouth we were looking forward to Sunday lunch. However how disappointing it turned out to be. Three starters out of four were good, the soup, the mussels and the scallops - the Thai fish cakes were the size of a tea light and half as thick and not having had them before not sure if they were meant to be rubbery. Beef served as pink was in fact almost raw, potatoes just shells as so overcooked they had lost the centre, and veg not al dente but raw. The whole plate of food was Luke warm. We really should have complained at the time but they did offer a free pud for one almost completely uneaten meal. Interestingly another table sent their food back once it was served.

It also seems they have cut back - ice creams and sorbets were previously served in a nice tuille basket but now just three dollops in a glass dish - no wafer, biscuit or decoration.

May try the new Gary Rhodes restaurant next time!

“A not so nice dining experience, standards are slipping I'm afraid.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2013 via mobile

Having arrived here 10mins early we where given a buzzer (franky & benny style) with no personal touch and asked to wait in the Refectory cocktail bar, as all cocktails where £7 each and the selection of drinks available limited we decided not to buy at such extortionate prices. eventually the buzzer went off 10mins after the table was booked with no apologies for the table not being ready on time. My partner went the toilet and no body greeted her to show her to the table which I was now sat at. The atmosphere wasn't the best with a crying baby next to us all night (can't fault the restaurant for this). Having dined here before I feel that the food no longer has the panache it use to have and the prices have risen which is a shame. £18 for steak and stodgy mash say no more with a cheese board to follow which was basic (no grapes, celery or sliced apple) just 3 crackers, bit of bread and a few tiny pieces of cheese for £7 total bargain! One positive was the waitress was lovely. I'm disappointed with the overall dining experience which is a shame as we use to dine here frequently and with Rhodes @ the Dome now in completion I feel barbican kitchen will lose some of its customers.

“Lovely!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

We had heard alot about the Barbican Kitchen and were keen to go. It didn't disappoint. The food was gorgeous, the service was excellent and there was a great atmosphere. They even surprised my husbands son with a "happy birthday" dessert plate which was a lovely touch considering we hadn't requested one or mentioned beforehand that we were celebrating his birthday - well done to the staff. We would definitely go again and would recommend it.
