“Family weekend in the Barbican”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013

Saturday 13th July, scorching weather in Plymouth, staying down there for a weekend. Decided to go for a Chinese meal. Chose the Crystal Dragon, not in the most prominent of positions but what a hidden gem. One of the best Chinese meals we have ever had, seven of us, chose the set meal for three and the same for four, to make our own banquet. Food was plentiful and delicious and didn't leave that claggy dry feeling in your mouth like Chinese food often does a few hours later, when you are dying of thirst.
Staff very polite and friendly, around £20 per head for a vast banquet, including drinks. Will definitely visit again and avoid the more prominent and expensive Chinese.

“Dining in a large group”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2013

Found ourselves at a loose end down the Barbican with family down visiting. 8 of us in total popped into the Crystal Dragon early in the evening. Great service and the food was nothing short of spectacular. Two of my family insisted it was the best Chinese meal they had ever had. Absolutely delicios and at a reasonable price too. The best Chinese restaurant in Plymouth by a long way.

“Home delivery, vast portions, cheap, bland food.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013

Years ago we used to be comparative regulars to the cosy upstairs restaurant. Quality and atmosphere dropped off and we came less. More recently the Noodle Lounge next door has become our favourite. Last night, dithering about a non cook supper option we saw a Crystal Dragon flyer amongst the dozens delivered over the last few weeks and gave it a try. Delivery was very prompt and the cost of £19 total for two produced a vast quantity of wholesome but on balance disappointingly bland food. We had a couple of DimSum and Spring Rolls each with tubs of chilli and sweet and sour sauces, a vast quantity of complimentary prawn crackers, followed by one chicken in garlic and chilli and I had a black bean sauce dish, both mains coming with enough noodles to feed an army. The speed of delivery, still hot and the quantity, easily dealt with our hunger. The price was no problem but it was very disappointing that the taste of all the food was bland, uninteresting and mundane. If we had been served with this eating in we would not have been satisfied. At home, our stomachs were well and truly stuffed but it wasn't tasty. The lesson is that we will chose another place next time. I wonder whether TA might one day separate cafes and restaurants from takeaways in their food listings?

“Not as good as it used to be....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2013

We used to eat here regularly when we were in Plymouth on business, then the restaurant closed down, which we were really sorry about. We were always sure of an excellent meal here at a really good price and with very generous portions.
On this visit whilst having a glass at Weatherspoons we noticed it had reopened. The meal was ok but not as good as it had been, it was still good value just nothing to write home about.

“Tasty Food, Good Prices, Lots of Choice.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2013

I have been coming here for a while now to order Takaway.

There is a lot of choice on the menu from different meats to vegetarian and Vegetable meals.

I reccommend their Kung Po Chicken and the Crispy Chicken in OK Sauce. These two dishes are the best tasting here, that I have ever had.

Their prawn toast is nice big slices and usually the spring rolls are verg good also. However, on this recent visit my spring rolls tasted odd. The only way I can describe it was it was as though I was eating a cigarette? I don't smoke and have never had this taste before, so no idea what it was from?

The restaurant looks nice inside, looks like they have done some decorating. Everytime I go in here it is always quiet, or there is no-one else inside. I would think this restaurant gets busy after 7pm?

The staff are friendly and helpful.

The winding stairs may be a little scary walking down when you leave, if you've had a few too many drinks!

They are a restaurant and also do Takeaway. They delivery free for over £10 if you are within 3 miles of them. You get free prawn crackers for orders over £15.
