“Organ needs repairs?”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

Came to a very well done memorial service today for a longstanding good old friend. Perfect setting. I was looking forward to the planned organ pieces before and after the addresses and prayers. The organ at St Andrews, installed as part of the very successful reconstruction after the devastation of the Blitz, has for many decades been know as one of the best and most powerful in the West Country. Sadly today it was obvious that there are mechanical or electrical problems. A loud abrasive blast early on have us some warning and the unpredictable timings on the response to some of the stops ruined several hymns. Time something was done. I enquired of a friend I I know to be a regular attendee who told me afterwards that there was some substantial servicing and general work done on the instrument some years ago but it now seems that the work was not wholly effective and that the church is now considering the spending and raising of a significant figure to get the remedial work done. I hope it can be afforded. This excellent church needs to be back firing efficiently on all cylinders as soon as possible.

“Lovely, modern windows”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

This church was, like much of Plymouth, bombed in the war. It still contains some memorials and interesting historical details. However, the best part of today's church are the modern stained glass windows by John Piper who also designed windows for Coventry Cathedral. Explanations of some of the symbols are available in the church. A YouTube video of the windows is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQEaWabT-9w

“A warm welcome”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

We visited the church to see the modern stained glass windows and they did not disappoint. The welcome was warm and friendly and the atmosphere of the church a delight.
