Just being able to sit and watch the variety of ships that enter the sound is amazing. Even on a cold winter day it was still pleasant to sit and observe. You can walk along the coast and stop at several places to rest your legs. See if your lucky enough to see any Naval ships sailing out on tour or returning after a 6month stretch away from home.

I took a trip in a boat around the sound and harbour and found it fascinating. The weather was awful so that limited visibility over all but what I could see I did enjoy.

The skipper was most informative with snippets from history and present day as we motored past submarines, sailing ships and through the naval dockyards.

Harbours are always magical places: the clinking of stays against masts, the smell of the salt air.....Great views and always something to watch... Ferries going in and out... Pause for a drop of the local brew and muse about times gone by... Definitely a great place to be.

A weekend away, and finally some sunny weather to enjoy the views and walks around the Hoe and City to the Barbican, there always seems something to do here and a little trip up the lighthouse to enjoy the views is worth it.
