Owner description: Undisturbed Burrator is surrounded by mixed woodland which sharply contrasts with the open moor and rugged Dartmoor tors. The reservoir is popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders due to its wealth of footpaths and bridleways. Many of the trails lead on to Dartmoor so it makes an ideal starting point for longer trips. The circular walk which follows the lanes around the water is ideal for families as it is easy going and flat. It will take between 1.5 - 2 hours to complete and is approximately 3.5 miles. Parking is possible at various locations including the Quarry car park, Norsworthy Bridge and the Dam.Low cost bank fishing for both rainbow and brown trout is available at this scenic water; permits are sold at the garage in Yelverton.Being within Dartmoor National Park we kindly request that you drive and park with consideration to other users and animals. The National Cycle Route 27 runs near to Burrator further information is available on the sustrans websiteIce cream vans visit the dam, Norsworthy Bridge and Sharpitor car park.

“great place to ride to on horseback over Dartmoor”

If you ride, get on a horse and have a good gallop from Ivybridge. Superb scenery, some great country and plenty of "safe" b its where you can stretch your nags legs without fear of rocks etc

“Nice flat stroll”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

Nice flat stroll around the lanes surrounding the victorian Burrator reservoir. Suitable for buggies and wheelchairs although as the walk around the lake is on lanes, beware of the occassional car. Ideal for cycling or jogging also. 3.5 miles around and plenty of spots for a picnic. Parking limited near dam and can be busy. Toilets closed during visit.

“Memorable Place”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

Burrator is lovely to visit. A large reservoir and damn, it's a great 5 mile walk around if you feel like it or plenty of places to pull over and have a walk on the drive around, in this lovely part of Dartmoor. A nice place to get away from it all/have a picnic.

I have been to see the Hoover Dam when I was in Las Lagas and I have to admit I prefer Burrator Dam anytime. it is so beautiful with a nice walk all the way around the dam, unlike the Hoover dam which is a soul less block of ugly concrete.
