Owner description: We are currently closed for the major redevelopment of the Plymouth History Centre (working title) which is set to open in spring 2020. In the meantime we are offering a 'Museum On Tour' programme which includes a range of partnership exhibitions, events and community projects in venues/locations across Plymouth and beyond.

Not enough people know of the city art gallery and museum. Of the thousands who walk or travel past every day, probably only a comparatively small number have ever been inside. The early twentieth century exterior is not particularly enticing. The inside has been cleaned up and improved a lot over the last few years. It contains a lot of exhibits pictures artefacts and more which would interest and intrigue most children and adults if only they could be coaxed through the front door. As at early May 2013 the three photos at the Tripadvisor heading are sort of OK but they give no real insight into the delights and the extent of the delights and curiosities inshore for visitors who cross the threshold. I urge the gallery and museum management and publicity folk to add at least a few up to date photos of the interior and some of the content.

And I recommend anyone who has never been or not for many years to go look and see what is going on now. It is all completely free.

A lovely museum in a great building. It's bright and welcoming with a charming open atrium, not unlike Bristol. Not as big as some but it does hold a large number of really very interesting and varied exhibits. There are many sections so you can pick and choose or visit them all. Lots of local info as well so you get a good taste of local history. The art galleries are delightful. There are permanent exhibitions and visiting ones so it keeps the interest going all year round. Families with young children are well catered for. No entry fee but donations are gratefully accepted and this museum is worth a donation. Well worth a visit. We went as a group and there was something for everyone. It doesn't disappoint.

Located within a great old building. It has some fantastic exhibits which illustrate local and International history.

This is very good for a free walkaround for half an hour or so. I recommend going into the right, see the animals. Then to the more historical bits across the corridor.
