“Good budget accommodation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013

Good accommodation for a short stay. Rooms in a good condition.Good location and plenty of car parking. Staff very helpful. Recommend as a place to stay if needing a clean, comfortable and relatively cheap hotel.

Plymouth (East) Premier Inn can be a bit tricky to find by car – even if you can see it in the distance. It is located close to a large, very busy roundabout with, I think, effectively 6 exits. To arrive, you need to take the exit that leads to Exeter on the A38. As you take the exit, you need to turn off almost immediately (25m ?) onto a further slip-road left which IIRC is signed on a brown sign as ‘Travel Inn’. This little road leads almost immediately into the car park but beware the (little-used ?) cycleway that crosses this slip road and has priority.

The carpark itself is adequate but is busy much of the day and evening. As others have noted, getting out of the car park decants you onto a 3 or 4 lane dual carriageway straight into the above roundabout. Traffic through the car park is thus one way only.

Having negotiated that, the Premier Inn is fine. Very helpful and friendly staff. Bedroom clean and reasonably quiet, even though we faced the dual carriageway and left the window open overnight and I am a light sleeper. Bath with shower over.

The restaurant next door serves typical chain restaurant food most of the day and we found it quite adequate and reasonable value, if a bit dimly light to our taste. It tended to be busy and noisy in the evening with birthday celebrations and the like. But the staff were very good although service was sometimes slow.

Across the road outside, but with the roundabout to negotiate, is Marsh Mills Retail Park which has a large Sainburys supermarket (restaurant, ATM, etc). Also close by (short walk) is the Coypool Park and Ride facility which is preferable to trying to drive into Plymouth IMHO. Buses every 15 mins or so. Plym Valley steam railway is located by the P&R site.

Overall, a good experience except for the traffic. Despite 50+ years driving experience (car, bike, HGV), I found myself apprehensive every time, arriving or leaving the hotel by car.

Easy to find with good motor access and travel to Plymouth, friendly welcome at desk on arrival and helpful, room good and clean and kept this way during stay, breakfast and evening meals served in attached harvester restaurant, good selection of meals in the evening with hot breakfast served to you with plenty of choice, can be busy at times and eating possible in lounge bar as well.
Over all good stay with quiet nights sleep throughout the stay

Easily accessible location, clean, good sized room, great service. Had a ground floor room, surprisingly quiet considering proximity to major roads and busy hotel. Would recommend. Fan in room was a great touch.

room booked by phone confirmed for first floor as I am disabled. Not noted on booking and had to wait to see if room could be arranged after long journey and late arrival(late arrival
informed when booking). Eventually room found.
No tumbler in bathroom. This is a first In 40 years of world travelling.
Bed so firm it is like sleeping on the floor!!
Person in room above could be heard roaming around until after midnight and from 4 am onwards. Creaking floorboards in hotel!! Awful.
Good nights sleep guaranteed---were do I claim refund!!

One redeeming feature was the assistance of Adam McShane on reception who arranged to forward my wife's forgotten ring and watch without any hesitation or concern about receiving refund for providing this service

Premier Inns are my second home. This time it was Plymouth East. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Stayed in room 33. Very large, very clean etc but it is above a door that kept banging. Do not stay in this room unless you are up and out by 6. Beefeater next door which is extremely busy and the food is just O.K.
