“Historic Plymouth - not to be missed”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

This is the historic Barbican area and should not be missed on a visit to Plymouth. There is also the marina and the aquarium. It is an easy 10 - 15 minute walk from the city centre or combine with a walk along the Hoe. There are plenty of cafes and small shops to explore and make sure you go off the main road and venture down the old side streets to get a real feel for the area. Can recommend Edward's fudge kitchen, 47 Southside St - gorgeous!
There is a memorial to the Mayflower which set sail from here in 1620.
Check out possible parking areas before you arrive and make sure you have change for the meter or pay via mobile phone, most spaces seemed to be roadside rather than designated car park. We walked from our hotel in Elliot Street which took about 10 minutes.

Has been gradually improved bit by bit over the years. Pretty part of Plymouth, great to stroll around. Nice atmosphere. Plenty of places to eat.

“Wonderful walk”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

This historic area of Plymouth is well worth the time to walk around. There are many shops, restaurants and sidewalk cafes to please your eyes and taste buds. The Mayflower Steps and the aquarium are right there. There can be crowded sidewalks and the cobblestones might make it a bit hard to negotiate for some.

If you are in the mood for a longer stroll, walking to Plymouth Hoe is easily done. Since the Barbican is downhill, I would start there and stroll down to the Barbican. Marvelous day!
