“History in Plymouth”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2012

If you are a visitor to Plymouth I think a visit to the Barbican is a must. So much was destroyed during the war but there is a little of Elizabethan Plymouth surviving on the Barbican. It is of course the place the Pilgrim Fathers sailed from so has huge historical significance. There are also plenty of things to see and some good cafes and restaurants in this area. From the Barbican you can walk along the sea front to the Hoe and this is worth doing.

“Surprisingly quaint.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2012

Loved the Barbican as the city of Plymouth is big and bold, so the Barbican is quaint and old .
I loved walking around the cobbled streets, looking in the antique and curio shops, there are shops selling all sorts of food, tea rooms and cafe's plus a seafood stall and candy floss, a nice place to wander around. In the early evening live music was coming from one of the pubs by the harbour, lots of outdoor seating a nice evening. We did not stay in the Barbican late so cannot comment about the night life there.

“Busy, bustling Barbican”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

Full of people of all nationalities, the place was bustling with life and energy. There were young families, people walking dogs, folks out with friends for drinks, and the obvious tourist too. Friendly smiles all around, There is a wide choice of bars and restaurants and the waterfront is always pleasant to walk along.

“Old England brought to life.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2012

Good mix of old & new. There's old cobbled streets with trendy new bars & bistros. The old harbour with plaques marking the spot where "The Mayflower" first sailed to America in 1600+something and my favourite, the Plymouth Gin distillery!
