“Shocking Restaurant”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2013

Arrived with friends on Friday Oct 25th , table for 4 with GroupOn. Included wine was undrinkable, wife's main course was un-edible and 2 of our meals were given to another table and eaten from by others and then brought out for us. Not a Restaurant that we will recommend, shocking experience

“Do not waste your money go elsewhere”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

IHave written many reviews on this web site and have always been honest and fair and I have no connections to any other restaurants but this place was awfull from start to Finnish
We went on the groupon vouchers and could choose any starter and main course from the menu, firstly what was advertised on the groupon site was not on the menu
I had to start mussels in tomato sauce AWFULL cold and some of them were not open
Main course seafood Linguini well it was basically spaghetti with bits of fish that I am sure was frozen my wife had chicken stuffed with cheese and bacon sent it back as it was raw and cold the waitress offerd a coffee instead I am sure none of the food here is fresh Italian except the pizzas that I cannot comment on I saw one of the so called chefs!!! Cutting up lasagne from the large black catering packs into smaller portions cling filmed for microwave there is no ambiance her it is just like a large hall with Dreadfull frozen microwaved food
We walked out after an hour amd my wife who is diabetic neede a meal and ended up in burger king next door for a chicken burger she enjoyed that more, my advice is 1 dont go there and waste your money there are better restaurants in Plymouth town centre with set menus this place will not survive in today's market

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2013

I had heard or read good things about this restaurant and we sometimes have lunch in town, so when a Groupon offer came along we thought we'd give it a try.
First impressions were not good. Empty restaurant, dull decor, brighten by a few well-known commercial pictures. However it was nice & clean, with pleasant, welcoming and genuinely Italian staff.
Starter was quite good (melanzane - aubergine with tomato & mozzarella) but my chicken breast wth smoked bacon gave the impression of having been supplied ready prepared, cooked & frozen by a catering supplier.
A side dish of veg was extra to the Groupon and was disappointing, although the quantity was (unlike another reviewer's) more than enough.
The house wines were nothing special.
For the amount we paid for the Groupon it was good value but I would not have been happy paying the full price of £55
The meal was about £5 or £6 short of the Groupon value and to reach it we would have needed to buy steaks, but these carried a supplement.
Perhaps we should have had pasta or pizza dishes, I suspect these would have been better.
The men's toilets were left over from this place's time as a pub, clean but grotty, but an attempt had been made to update the ladies.
I don't think we will be going back, I think better value is to be had at Bella Italia & Pizza Express and it is disappointing that Aglio e Olio could not improve on these chain eateries .

“Lovely Italian food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2013

We, too, were "Grouponites"! Hadn't expected anything as authentically Italian as this. It was terrific from start to finish. The full menu was available, including the frito misto. The food was reminiscent of our trip to Northern Italy last year, and just as tasty. Between us we tried the aforementioned as well as pasta and pizza dishes. All of these were delicious and plentiful. The service was friendly and helpful. We added coffee and puddings extra, and all were delightful. Will definitely go there again. [ If you like American Italian food, a la Frankie and Benny, this is not the place for you. Nothing seems to be overly cheesy or fatty, just delicious.] The trio of puddings is easily enough for two. Our choices were homemade tiramisu, cheesecake and an open apple tart. Wonderful. Cannot wait to go there again.

“Wonderful Italian Cooking”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2013

Four of us went for lunch and we loved the food which was delicious.
We had a Groupon Voucher which included a glass of wine each. The lunch menu is very reasonable anyway without need for Vouchers. I hope more diners try the restaurant because it needs supporting. Will definitely go back and hope it has more diners to enhance the atmosphere. If you love Italian food you will love Aglio Olio.
