“Trendy arthouse eatery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2012

This is a unique and much needed venue for Plymouth.
Everything is spot on for the arthouse vibe. Cool decor, local produce, trendy food presentation etc.
Not huge portions (I went the for lunch) but the food isn't really the reason to go there. It's the bohemian atmosphere.

“Rather disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2012

Visited having seen recommendations in the local press.
Staff friendly. Decor rather minimalistic and questionable lighting (from the electrical point of view).
Menu very limited. Home-made bread very good.. My crab linguine was basically ok but not hot because the plate was completely cold. My wife's burger was huge, but dried out and overcooked.
Prices are very low, which may be why it is popular. I would prefer to pay more for a better meal

“Arthouse lover”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2012

I'm a regular user of the arthouse, and usually meet friends for a drink and a meal there about once a week, before seeing a film in the cinema downstairs. The food is fresh, exciting, delicious and very reasonably priced. The menu has been changed recently, and on my last visit I tried the sea bass, which was cooked to perfection. We shared several puddings, all were delicious. The staff were friendly and the chef was very attentive, talking to diners and checking that everybody was happy. Smiles all round.

“Needs something more. Lacks life.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2012

We came for a late lunch today, a warm Saturday afternoon, having read online and in the bimonthly Arts Centre calendar that the full menu is available all day. We were told our meal would be served in the ground floor bar area. Until an elderly couple turned up for an early film showing we were alone. The waitress did not know the soup of the day. For £30 we had a soft drink, small glass of wine, the house pesto with bread, an enamel cup of soup and a burger with wedges. It was OK but lonely. It was very warm, we gazed through the open back door into a delightful tree shaded yard but were told that as a result of tensions with the adjacent landlord the outside space could not be used for eating. Back inside the tasteful mini arrangement of flowers on our table was wilted and the water stale and smelt, the plastic top on our simple stylish table was stained permanently with cup marks and worn with holes but not deliberately as with the adjacent shabby chic long table. Our only company was Muzak from what appeared to be a mixed album in an Hispanic or other Latin Tongue. It was an easy going peaceful snack but not something we would rush to repeat.
