Description: There are a few fast food eat in and out food places in Plymouth some of which have a modest cult status in the city either because of their prominent and convenient position or because of a consistent reputation. West Hoe Fryers has such a reputation for being close to the Hoe foreshore and parkland and foe taking care to maintain traditional standards. There is a steady faytime trade and often a queue for the cafe eating area. Worth a Tripadvisor listing.

In these supposedly cosmopolitan days in which we are all urged to embrace a thoroughly mixed bag of cultures and lifestyles, how refreshing it is to be able to still visit an establishment which is totally unpretentious and takes a simple pride in quality.

I have been a customer of this establishment over a number of years and it is delightfully consistent.

Consistent in the range and quality of the food it provides. Consistent in the warm way in which customers are greeted. Consistent in its reasonable scale of charges. The seating accommodation is plain but functional and the place is well maintained.

Bistros and Gastropubs are all well and good but it is still nice (and very reassuring) to be able to visit somewhere which remains British through and through.

Well done!

Not only the best food in town but you are always guaranteed a warm welcome from the manager and his staff, we wouldn't go anywhere else for our fish suppers, simply the best.
A well deserved five stars!

I am reviewing this great little restaurant again as it delivers quality food over and over. Someone has has left a review on March 2nd, not a nice review at all. They complain that this is not a restaurant. Well, I totally disagree. It can seat 20+ in the 'old fashioned style' diner. There is a good sized menu and good waitress service. The food is second to none. What more can you ask and further, what else can you call this establishment. Ok, it's not 'la di dah, nothing on your plate and a huge bill at the end', but they deliver what people want and that is why they are nearly always full and there is always a queue at the takeaway side. Where else can people review this establishment, it is not a hotel or guest house neither is it speciality accommodation. What it is, is the number 1 restaurant in Plymouth because so many people love it.
Finally, to complain that 'The Parking' is terrible is just ridiculous, since when has 'Parking' got anything to do with a good meal. Perhaps next time you use a car park you should complain that the food was rubbish.
