“One night stay”
Reviewed August 10, 2014 via mobile

A quick simple review.
The hotel itself was clean. The room very clean and respectable and the two large double beds are a real bonus. The air conditioning was very useful in the night as the room was quite warm. The beds we found were very comfortable and the bathrooms were clean and spacious.
The staff were extremely friendly and it really stood out. The room cleaners were smiling and pleasant and the front desk staff always looked up and smiled with a greeting whenever you passed by. The friendliness of the staff stood out to all 4 of us that stayed the night.
It's very central and ideally located. Parking within the hotel is good although a tight car park if you have a larger car. There is free parking on the road outside from 18:00-10:00.
I hope this helps.

Stayed for three nights as family of four. Arrived late morning parked in the underground car park which as other reviews say was tight but not as bad as we had expected. We mentioned to reception that we had parked and would be back later to check in, they were happy with this. Check is from 2pm we went back about 2.45pm and room not ready, she also did not see that we had two bookings and asked us for payment for the first night but we are platinum elite card holders and the first night was a free night and the next two were reward nights!! We explained and she looked at computer again and saw her mistake. She then offered us points or free drinks, we took the free drinks offer and went to wait for our room. The bar is on the top floor and the views are amazing. We hadn't been waiting 10mins before a member of staff came over to say our room was ready.
We had your big standard two double bed room, no upgrade to the platinum. No water in the room either. Oh well we didn't mind as the room was massive with plenty of space to spread out. The beds we're comfy and we all slept well. The furnishings looked tired and the bathroom needed a refurb, the shower head looked disgusting despite it being very powerful. Views out the room were nothing special but the location of the hotel is fantastic! It is right in the centre of everything, two mins one way to sea front and harbour and two mins the other way to the city centre. Overall a great stay, breakfast was plentiful but busy.

Stayed for one night very busy hotel with weddings, coach loads of Germans & a Gay Pride festival going on 500 yards away to boot. However the staff were fantasic, enthusiastic and helpful. The top floor bar and restaurant have great vies of the bay. And because our room was not quite ready at 2pm we were offered a free drink at the bar and were upgraded to boot. (Room was ready 10 minutes later) The rooms were clean and tidy although a little dated. Breakfast as expected and a good meal in the evening. Very reasonably priced overall experience. Feedback for management - sort out the lifts and warn people that if using the underground car park. It is very, very tight. Park there if you like a challenge. Take a big car if you are feeling brave. Overall. Well done good experience.

Dear Jay B,

Thank you for posting your review, and I was pleased to read your positive comments. I have noted your specific feedback regarding the lifts and the car park.
We do have an outside car park which is more suited for large cars and is located opposite the exit from our basement car park level. I hope this will be of help on your next visit.
I look forward to welcoming you back.

The Holiday Inn has chopped and changed its name and owners over the years but it remains superbly well situated in the centre of the city but close enough to Plymouth Hoe and Plymouth Sound to step outside before a very good breakfast and take a walk along the Hoe. The bedrooms are comfortable and well furnished, the restaurants serve a range of food to suit everyones taste. It is an all rounder, as suitable for those visiting the city for pleasure or business, for those who want to host a big function in one of the ball rooms or have a great wedding reception. Not the cheapest place but certainly it offers value for money.

Dear valerie m,

Thank you for posting your review. I was pleased to read that you found our location and overall facilities suitable for either a business or leisure visit. We are also very proud to host a variety of functions in our Mariner Suite and have also been in the past the main venue for some large conferences and conventions in the City.
We have a prime location which is very convenient for our guests and also provides some spectacular views of the Hoe from our Penthouse Floor.
Thank you again.

This review is based only on booking as we cancelled due to this hotel not making reasonable adjustment.

We booked 9 months in advance. Out of over 200 rooms they only have two accessible ones. One twin and one double. This in itself is very poor.

The twin was taken so we booked a double.

I need to sleep in a separate bed because of postural equipment. In our experience all other Inn type places offer carers and family members a camp bed/folding bed. Even other Holiday Inns have done this.

This hotel said it was policy not to provide such things. The moody person I spoke to said I could have a separate carer room - if we paid for it.

If other places do it to help disabled customers - in similar rooms, why not here? No apology or explanation of this policy.

We cancelled our booking and have filed a complaint.

I guess the moral of the tale is don't assume each hotel has the same equality policies or complies with UK equality laws.

We always stay here when visiting Plymouth twice a year. Clean comfortable, spacious rooms. Pool and facilities excellent. Car park handy, great location for the Hoe, Barbican and town, all 5 minutes away. Breakfast always a treat, views amazing from restaurant and from all the rooms we have stayed in. Staff professional, would recommend and do so often to all.

I normally use Holiday Inn's and associated brands as the IHG rewards card give discounts on up grades and free wifi and other extra's. So I know what to expect from the brand. This hotel generally lives up to the standard I have come to expect from the brand. The hotel is in need of a refurb as it is looking a little tired and dated in place's. However, the rooms are clean with plenty of room and the shower was great, plenty of water pressure. As always, the staff in these hotels are excellent being polite and helpful at all times. One slight gripe was the long wait on the Friday and Saturday nights for service in the Penthouse Bar, as staff were trying to do a number of different tasks simultaneously which resulted in the bar being unattended for very long periods of time.

Every thing else was great, especially the breakfast. For me though, the thing that really stands out is the location of the hotel. The main shopping area is an easy walk from the hotel as is the barbican area for restaurants etc. it's so nice to be able to park the car in the car park and leave it there for the majority of our stay in Plymouth.

All in all, a good value for money hotel in an excellent location.
