“Amazing views, gorgeous sunshine and perfectly cooked fish and chips”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2012

The food was great, the view was great (there was lots going on in the Sound on the day we visited) and the weather was perfect.
What more could I ask for? Nothing. It was brilliant and I will definitely be back for more!

“Lovely Cream Tea”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2012

we only stopped here on the spur of the moment and even then only for a Cream Tea so this review isn't perhaps as full as it could be. It was the first decent sunny day of the summer so being close to Plymouth Hoe they were very busy. Still, we found a table outside in the sunshine with its lovely views over Plymouth Sound so the setting couldn't have been more pleasant. The Cream Tea consisted of a decently large (still Warm) scone with plenty of jam and cream with the obligatory pot of tea or cup of coffee. Unfortunately they seemed to have forgotten us at one point so we had to go and get the promised coffee ourselves, which marred what was overall a very positive experience.

“A year on, not enough has changed.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2012

Came early evening on the first warm weekend of this summer. Looking for a medium supper after a walking the dog. There were some chalk boards on the pavement with 'specials' so we thought we would give it another try. Inside still dull and dingy. We sat outside at a table before realising that the area of the garden nearest the building has a wall too high to afford any views of the Sound or Cattewater and also focuses traffic noise. We ordered inside, had to pay upfront and then moved to a picnic bench at the far end where the wall was low enough to see passing ships trawlers and yachts. £20 for one course and a drink each. I had nachos and my partner a crab cake with a few prawns in batter. Nothing great but we didn't have to wait much more than fifteen minutes. It may have been busy day. There was a lot of litter strewn over the grass and under the tables. Several tables remained uncleared throughout our stay and there was a large two level trolley with some used dishes glasses etc parked up near us. We eat enough to keep us going. Witnessed a succession of little fat early teen local lads jumping in wetsuits cut off jeans and implausibly big trainers, 'tombstoning' dangerously from the wall just beyond our table beside some old cannon. Our overall impression since last year is that more effort is being made hear but a lot could be done to improve the quality of the food, improve the environment and bring up the general quality not least by making it feel a little more friendly and efficient. Maybe it's been a slow start to the season for everyone and they're not completely up to speed. We did look at alternatives, theBoathouse closes at six and the Terrace was already in the shadow at seven pm. The new El Cafe just beyond Tinside pool only appeared to be selling sandwiches. There is a fair bit of trade if Duttons can provide the service. At present it still gives off a folksy down market slightly amateurish impression.
