“Cosy atmosphere and good views of the stage”
Reviewed April 19, 2012

I have been to the Theatre Royal many times and my last visit was in March this year to see Phantom of the Opera. I thought that this show was very well done considering this is a small and cosy theatre compared to the large London venue.
This theatre has a friendly homely atmosphere and whatever seats I have had I have always had a good view of the stage.
The seats are comfortable with reasonable legroom, but as there is not a centre isle, you may have to disturb quite a few people in order to get to and from your seat if it is situated in the centre.
My other criticism is that when the show has finished there is a terrible bottle neck in trying to get out of the building. I found it quite hemmed in.
This said I would still return to this theatre as it is very handy in the centre of Plymouth and has a great variety of performances.

“Fantastic prefomances”
Reviewed April 18, 2012

I recently went to see the king and I...it was a fantastic preformance and very good value for money. The only down side is the new chair layout they have. The chairs aren't staggered enough to get a clear view, I'm quite tall so for shorter people I think you might miss a few things.

The staff are very polite and make you feel welcome. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and will definately be going in the near future.

“Large main auditorium”

Handy to the town centre. Large main auditorium. The bar area can be a little crowded.

A great theatre that is often chosen as the pilot theatre for London productions eg Phantom of the Opera. Large enough to put on such productions, but small enough to create a great atmosphere

“Perfect entertainment provider”
Reviewed April 13, 2012

Great theatre, has everything you'd need. As with most theatres, upper tiers are steep and its a good idea to check seat selections for obstruction. The production was Phantom of the Opera and there was a scene where the action takes place on a balcony set very high up on stage - unfortunately those of us more than four rows back in the dress circle could not see the action because of the floor of the upper tier above us!
Bar service excellent with more than one bar in operation. The Theatre Royal is quite large, bigger than some London Theatres we have been too so all in all a very enjoyable evening.
