“Fantastic Hotel, would stay again!”
Reviewed October 28, 2010

We have just returned from a weekend at this hotel where we had a wonderful time. Reception staff gave us a very warm welcome, check-in was quick and simple, the room was clean and spacious with such comfy beds! Had dinner in their restaurant on the second night, the food and service was way beyond expectations. Breakfast was good, lots of choice and once again the staff could not do enough for us. The hotel is located walking distance to town and the barbican which was great to be close to everything. Onsite carpark only £2 a day, which is very reasonable for a city centre hotel.
All in all we enjoyed our stay very much and we look forward to returning very soon!

We stayed at this hotel whilst visiting friends. I must admit, I was slightly hesitant given some of the reviews I had read but my friends recommeded the hotel after having been there for a wedding in summer.

The entrance and reception area is lovely and looks like it has recently been done up. There is also a nice bar area.

The reception staff were friendly and the bedroom was really nice and again looked like it had been recently done up.

The Plymouth hoe and picturesque barbican is just a short walk away and the city centre is also close by.

We had dinner in the brasserie downstairs which was new and the food was fantastic. Definately a match to some of the top restaurants I have been to across the country! The restaurant manager was also very friendly and made us feel extremely welcome!

If you are looking for a nice, clean modern place to stay close to local amenities and tourist attractions, I would recommend this hotel.

Not the best hotel in the area by far.
Upon arrival I was greeted by an extremely grumpy receptionist who seemed to speak through me not to me, the decor of the hotel was severely outdated and there was dirt on almost all of the skirting boards throughout.
The staff seemed very miserable and I overheard the manager shouting her head off in a back room, very unprofessional. Lack of toilet roll in the cubicle I used and the general mess around the hotel (the corridors outside of my room were filthy) coupled with an insanely hot room has left me in utter astonishment that this hotel attracts any custom at all.
The waiting staff did pull through on this account yet the cutlery looked filthy.
Food was average, new restaurant looked nice yet floor very dirty. Pool and Gym areas satisfactory.
Overall I would never stay here or let any one I know stay here. My advice- Steer clear

A mediocre hotel only saved by excellant staff. The hotel is very basic with cheap furnishings. The location is awfull and the whole area could do with a face lift. not the fault of the hotel I will admit. The room We had was a back room on the first floor. It was very hot but You could not have the window open because the noise of the air con for the ground floor was so noisy. I had very little sleep and did not enjoy my stay at all.

We arrived to this hotel for a Romantic weekend. The lobby looked clean and modern, and we thought we had booked a good hotel. If only the rest of the hotel was as nice...
The hotel staff were welcoming, and we were checked in quickly. The room was an average size with plenty of storage and a clean bathroom. The problem was the stuffyness of the room. We thought we had a room next to the boiler room. We had a ceiling fan which was useless, and with the window open, the noise from the traffic was rather loud. This did not make for a good nights sleep! The hallway was shabby, wallpaper was tatty, no lampshades on the lights etc. We had booked spa treatments on the Saturday which were lovely, but the pool area is small with just 2 loungers. Breakfast was average, cheap sausages! and deep fried. Location of the hotel was good for the city center, just a few mins walk to the shops and restaurants. We decided to have a drink in the hotel bar after having a neal out. We stood at the bar for a long time waiting to be served, but there wasn't anyone about.
Overall the hotel was not as nice as we thought it would be for the money we paid. £90 per night AND had to pay £2.00 for parking our car in their carpark. Not somewhere we would go again and would not recommend.

Was a little worried when booking this hotel but when we arrived it was fantastic! The hotel is very clean and the reception areas and bar is very modern. Hotel staff very smart and very helpful. We booked a room for 3 adults - the room was huge so offered a lot of living space. Bathroom very clean and had a lot of items (such as soap, shampoo and cups) making the stay even better. Room had just been refurbished and was very nice (other rooms in hotel awaiting this.) Bed very comfortable and sheets clean. On the down side there is a busy road so be prepared to hear noise if window open (but thats what you get for a city centre.) Leisure complex very nice but could have done with a lick of paint - towels and water provided and is free to use for hotel guests. We had problem upon arrival with television, hotel staff soon rectified this and to high standards. Breakfast also very good Recommend this hotel very much!
