Really, really good. Great service, friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Exceptional food, amazing building. Absolutely worth the not excessive bill. Be warned, the portion size is large but the menu oh so tempting. The baklava ends a perfect meal. Very good, thank you.

“A hidden Gem”
Reviewed June 1, 2012

Tucked away in a quiet back street of the Barbican is delightful little restaurant called Shirley Valentines. I had heard from various friends that this place was worth a visit so whilst wandering around the Barbican on Friday evening, my wife and I decided to give it a try. From the get-go we were glad we did, the staff were very friendly and attentive, the decor and atmosphere (upstaris) was great and the food was outstanding, giving us a taste of the eastern mediterranean. We decided to skip the dips and breads and had just went for a starter and main, and each course was delicious and well cooked, and the Turkish dry white wine was a revelation, having never tried Turkish wine before it matched extremely well with our food. There is nothing fancy about this food, just good honest and very tasty. There is only one constructive comment we'd like to make to the owners, that is make your portion sizes smaller please! Apart from that everything else is a winner about this restaurant.

“This is a lovely restaurant for both an intimate meal for 2 or a family gathering.”
Reviewed May 28, 2012

When I dined here recently it was a lovely friendly environment and Shirley's chocolate mayonnaise cake yes mayo cake is to die for. The swordfish is also very good.
We were well looked after but without being interrupted every five minutes like you can experience at some restaurants.
This is a smallish place so booking in advance is advisable.
Go on be a devil and take your loved one out for a treat, do not wait for birthdays or anniversaries.

“Cracking lunch”
Reviewed May 25, 2012

Had the two course lunch menu and some good Turkish rose wine, which made a change. The chicken kebabs were great, accompanied by salad and rice, a huge plateful. Really friendly welcome and good value, nothing not to like.

“Amazing!”
Reviewed May 14, 2012

This little back street restaurant has to be one of the best I have visited in a while. The food was wholesome and full of flavour. I had the kleftiko and my partner had the souvlaki, which we both enjoyed. We did not sample the mezes or desserts on this visit as from the dishes brought out whilst we pondered the menu were huge and we decided that a main course would be more than ample. The music and the service from the staff added to the experience. Looking forward to our next visit already.
