We have just returned from a 3-night stay with John and Linda at the Pine Lodge. This guest house is a very short distance from Lynton and is approached by a very steep, narrow hill, which was a bit daunting at first, but easy to negotiate once you'd tackled it and got the hang of it. We had telephoned before we arrived to say that we were a bit early and would we be able to check in earlier than normal. John said it wasn't a problem and we arrived at about 2.45pm. We were given a lovely cheery welcome and offered a cup of tea on our arrival which was a lovely touch. I happened to mention that we were here to celebrate my birthday. John remembered this the next morning and wished me a happy day - another nice touch.
Our room was at the back - the Garden Room - which looked out at the little rockery type garden. It was very clean, nicely decorated in beige and soft blue/grey. The bed linen smelt very fresh and was of a good quality. There was a folder with all sorts of information about what to expect during our stay, and emergency procedures, etc. The only thing about our bathroom was that the shower was not great - we are used to a power shower at home so this was a bit of a disappointment. A small detail but might be important to some. However it did not detract from our absolute enjoyment of our stay. John gave us good advice about the good places to eat in the village and which ones he would recommend. It was lovely to be able to leave the car and walk into Lynton itself along a leafy path set into the hillside that occasionally gave you glimpses of Lynmouth way below. Very nice.
The breakfasts were out of this world with a staggering choice of fresh fruits (I really indulged this) and the breakfasts were perfectly cooked every time. Very very good. We would certainly recommend this guest house to anyone who is happy to be just outside the village centre - a 10 minute walk away. You could hear the owls hooting in the woods opposite - bliss. And we mustn't forget to mention Bertie - their gorgeous friendly spaniel whose tail didn't stop wagging - bless.
Don't overlook this establishment just because it's not in the centre of Lynton. It's only a glorious step away and well worth the short walk. Thanks so much, John and Linda.
