“Excellent service and welcome”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

We have just returned from a 3-night stay with John and Linda at the Pine Lodge. This guest house is a very short distance from Lynton and is approached by a very steep, narrow hill, which was a bit daunting at first, but easy to negotiate once you'd tackled it and got the hang of it. We had telephoned before we arrived to say that we were a bit early and would we be able to check in earlier than normal. John said it wasn't a problem and we arrived at about 2.45pm. We were given a lovely cheery welcome and offered a cup of tea on our arrival which was a lovely touch. I happened to mention that we were here to celebrate my birthday. John remembered this the next morning and wished me a happy day - another nice touch.
Our room was at the back - the Garden Room - which looked out at the little rockery type garden. It was very clean, nicely decorated in beige and soft blue/grey. The bed linen smelt very fresh and was of a good quality. There was a folder with all sorts of information about what to expect during our stay, and emergency procedures, etc. The only thing about our bathroom was that the shower was not great - we are used to a power shower at home so this was a bit of a disappointment. A small detail but might be important to some. However it did not detract from our absolute enjoyment of our stay. John gave us good advice about the good places to eat in the village and which ones he would recommend. It was lovely to be able to leave the car and walk into Lynton itself along a leafy path set into the hillside that occasionally gave you glimpses of Lynmouth way below. Very nice.
The breakfasts were out of this world with a staggering choice of fresh fruits (I really indulged this) and the breakfasts were perfectly cooked every time. Very very good. We would certainly recommend this guest house to anyone who is happy to be just outside the village centre - a 10 minute walk away. You could hear the owls hooting in the woods opposite - bliss. And we mustn't forget to mention Bertie - their gorgeous friendly spaniel whose tail didn't stop wagging - bless.
Don't overlook this establishment just because it's not in the centre of Lynton. It's only a glorious step away and well worth the short walk. Thanks so much, John and Linda.

This is our second trip at this B&B and there is nothing we can say except its been just as great as it was the first time around. The room was spotless, comfy bed, comfy pillows/cushions, plenty of hot drinks to help to in the room. Fluffy towels in the bathroom.
John and Linda looked after us once again like friends, with their tea/coffee/latte and Linda's mouth watering home baked cakes..... we can carry on and on !!!
John is always eager to help with suggestions on outings, shopping and eating outs.
Linda always has time for a chat with a smile despite being busy with baking, cooking etc etc.
Feels like home from home for both of us. Geeta & Karl

As keen cyclists, we highly recommend the Pine Lodge as a place to stay! John and Linda could not have been more helpful, being very welcoming despite our dishevelled and slightly damp condition! Our bikes were given a safe place to be locked up and the room was perfect for all three of us. Breakfast gave us plenty of energy for our trip across Exmoor the net day. Excellent views over the valley, but best of all Pine Lodge is at the top of the hill! Thank you.

Room Tip: Room 5 was great for a family of 3 or 4

Good location to visit the North Devon area and with a handy pub (the Cottage) & a 5 minute stroll from Lynton. Breakfasts are a-maz-ing for both quality & amount; really sets you up for the day. Hosts are really friendly & helpful & great little details like cake on arrival. The only small niggles were parking can be tricky (though consideration by fellow guests is key there) and the toilet in room 2 needs to 'man up' a bit.

Pine Lodge, what can I say that hasn't already been said. We recently had a 2 night stay in this fantastic guest house. It is in a great location right on the edge of Exmoor. John and Linda were very welcoming, arranged for tea and homemade cake when we got there. They also recommended places to eat, we went to the Greenhouse Restaurant & Wine Bar, right opposite to the entrance of the Funicular Railway. Our room was very good, really clean and with the added bonus of homemade biscuits on the tray along with tea and coffee making facilities. The breakfasts were very substantial and kept us going all day,, with a selection of cooked breakfasts, or buffet with homemade jam, marmalade, yogurt and a compote. Then there were cereal selections, juices and dried fruits. It was a shame that the weather was so misty and damp, but with some suggestions from John and Linda of things to do and see all wan't lost. If we are ever in the area again we will certainly stay at Pine Lodge and would recommend it to anyone.

Just got back from a wonderful break at this guest house. John and Linda were excellent hosts and couldnt do enough to make sure your stay was perfect. Set in an absolutely beautiful location where the only sound you heard were the birds and the running water of the river. Amazing breakfasts which set you up for the day and so many little touches that made your stay all the more memorable. Looking forward to returning. Denny and Mike Richardson
