Stayed here during the Easter Bank Holiday after we found this place on a ‘dog friendly hotels’ website. The drive (from Berkshire) to Exmoor was amazing and driving into Lynmouth and Lynton is great, it felt like we were abroad!
Luckily the car park was almost empty (I read some comments here about the car park being crammed) and when we walked into the hotel it was like visiting your lovely nan’s house, we loved it. We were promptly checked in and dog was made welcome as well.

The view from our hotel room was definitely the best thing, so lovely! The room was spacious enough and the shower was good. I did find the bed too small, but we’re used to a European sized 160 cm bed, which is a bit bigger than UK double beds so that’s not the hotels fault. The toilets make a lot of sound when they flush, but it only lasts a few seconds.
We loved the ginger biscuits in our room every day and the tea making facilities. The breakfast was very good, both the full English and the vegetarian breakfast. For a hotel where we could bring our dog and have breakfast included for around £95 a night we thought it was good value.

Likes:
- Friendly helpful staff
- Amazing views, close to the Valley of Rocks and close to Lynton town and the clifftop railway to Lynmouth (we walked everytime though, the queue for the railway was insane)
- Good breakfast
- Dog friendly and yet a very clean hotel & room

To be mindful of:
- If you are not a confident or experienced driver, you’ll be in trouble here reversing out of this car park, its very steep and you’ll have to be VERY careful. We didn’t have any problems but I let my other half do all the driving!

This place is like stepping back in time & visiting your Gran's house (in a nice way). Clean, comfortable and peppered with little quirks that will make you smile & take you back to childhood, such as lemon marmalade at breakfast (hadn't seen that for years), heavy anaglypta wallpaper painted with gloss and sets of country scene plates hanging on the walls. Quaint & nostalgic, albeit a bit fusty smelling in places disguised as best they can with plug in air fresheners.

Very comfortable beds, the family room with the bunk beds is very spacious and consists actually of two rooms including a sitting area with sofa & easy chair, plus a huge bathroom with good, powerful shower over the bath - in many places this would be classed as a family 'suite' and priced accordingly. The views from the windows of this room are astounding and for £110 per night for the room, including full breakfast for 4 people, you can't go wrong. Remember that this is only a two star establishment bless it, so keep your expectations realistic for this category and you won't be left disappointed.

Would we pay a return visit though? NO! Definitely not.

This is not necessarily the fault of the hotel itself mind you, it's the fault of the location. The approach to it is truly hair raising and you risk your life and that of your passengers if you are unlucky enough to meet something coming the other way and have to reverse down (or up) a very narrow winding ledge. No passing places, this is NOT a road it IS just a ledge with only a very low, maybe 2ft wall, broken in places, to protect you. It's very important you understand this - be under no illusion and is of particular importance if you have a family sized car.

Yes Devon & Cornwall roads are often like that, but this one is nothing short of treacherous. A single track tight winding ledge with a terrifying sheer drop of 500 feet or more... No thank you. If you suffer with even mild vertigo please don't come here.

The hotel car park is tiny, my own drive at home is bigger and cars have to park bumper to bumper, all boxed in, to all fit on it. Allegedly this is a 'good' car park compared to some, but we only risked it the once seeing as it was cambered steeply toward the sheer drop - one mistake and you'd be a gonner. Just not worth the risk when between 6pm and 10am you can park for free in the village public car park - a much safer option, albeit inconvenient. We chose that option and cut our trip short by two days, the location of the hotel just wasn't for us. There's a clue when you see goats early morning tottering along the edge, walking along the top of this low, broken wall... I'm not kidding, I have photos!

If you want an evening meal in the hotel you must notify reception by 4pm the PREVIOUS day, giving your menu choices!! Bear that in mind should you arrive late afternoon or early evening expecting to eat at the hotel that night!! Bit of an unpleasant shock & a major disappointment after a really long, tiring journey with two children.

One last thing, the trolley lift up & down the cliff runs right beside the hotel so from 10am - 7pm it's very noisy indeed if you want your window open.

Nice enough quirky hotel, the lady running it was everso pleasant & friendly too, but we won't be coming back or recommending it to anybody, sorry.

Room Tip: Park in the village it's safer, forget the hotel car park!

My partner, daughter and I have just got home from a lovely 3 nights with Kate at the North Cliff Hotel. The view from the hotel is just amazing and the village has various places to eat just a short walk away. The cliff train down to Lynmouth is just around the corner to. The breakfast was lovely and the room spacious and exceptionally clean. Perfect

Yet another amazing trip to beautiful Lynton. Kate again made us very welcome in her beautiful sympathetically designed and decorated victorian hotel. Immaculately clean as always, super yummy breakfast. I really couldn't recommend this hotel enough. For those negative comments, please remember this hotel is a two star hotel, it's really so much more than this. Really good value for money. Please pay Kate and the north cliff hotel a visit, you won't be disappointed.

The hotel has a stunning view across the coast and is conviniently located at the top of the railway for easy access down the cliff face to Lynmouth and the coast. We took our two dogs, they loved exploring the area, and everyone was very dog friendly. There are some sweet seaside pubs in Lynmouth and we found four dog friendly pubs for evening meals. There were two more in Lynton too.

The hotel iself very clean and spacious. The room itself could have done with a lick of paint and it was rather on the small side, but with such a lovely view it wasn't a big deal, and it was very clean which is the main thing.

The full english breakfast the next day was served in a lovely sunny room and tasted absolutely delicious. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, and readily gave advice on the area.

As above, the building and rooms do appear dated in parts, but I would recommend this hotel for the view, cleanliness, doggie friendlness and yummy breakfast.

The Hotel is situated overlooking Lynmouth and the view is amazing.

There is hardly any parking, its okay if you are the first guests to arrive, but then you can't get your car out in the morning!!

The reception was unmanned and every time you needed something you had to ring a bell!

The interior of the hotel is very jaded and needs a thorough overhaul.

Our room was clean but I haven't stayed in a room this tired for a long time!!! Wood chip paper, that was peeling off the walls in places, an ensuite that if you were bigger than a size 16 you would have struggled to get into!! Every time a guest flushed their toilet our room shook and sounded like somebody was drilling through the walls!!!! You can put up with it occasionally but in the middle of the night it's not so funny! It got so bad my husband recorded it

Having said all that the breakfast was lovely, freshly cooked and served very efficiently.

I would never stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view, it's the best thing about the hotel.

This hotel appealed to us as we could take our dog and you would have no idea it was a dog hotel, it was immaculately clean and a great set up for dog owners and walkers alike with an entrance room all equipped for cleaning and drying off.
The rooms were a little old fashioned but it is being modernised and they have everything you could need.
Kate was lovely and made the place feel very homely and she cooks a mean breakfast :)

Room Tip: Ensure your room is far away from the railway if you want to sleep in. It’s not loud however it'...
