We were a group of three and stayed in Rockvale for two days from Good Friday. Service is what impressed me immensely. Heather was awake late till 1am in the night for us to check in late. She welcomes us warmly and did not show the slightest of impatience for waiting or unwillingness to do anything (even if it comes to pancakes kept for her bfast!) We were there to hike on the Exmoor southwest coastal trail, and were given plenty of info by Alwyn and others there. The best part was their drop and pick up service they provided on request for a really low price than cabs!! She dropped us in Countisbury in the morning. After walking down for 11 miles, we were almost lost in the dark around 8 30 and managed to reach to Culbone pub through some means. Heather offered to pick us up late around 9 30pm giving us time to eat our dinner there! Alwyn and Heather are so flexible and understanding like someone in family.
The rooms were cozy, neat and clean. The food was delicious and i can never forget the pancakes (yummm!!). The prices are affordable, and they have a good cancellation policy as well. I will definitely recommend this to anyone planning to explore Exmoor!

My wife and I stayed at Rockvale for two nights just after Easter 2012. I booked it hurriedly two weeks before as I was anxious to find somewhere before rooms became scarce during the holiday week. We couldn't have done better! A lovely clean, warm and comfortable guest house. Alwyn and Heather were so welcoming and would do anything to make our stay memorable. When we arrived in the middle of the afternoon we were offered tea but it came with home-made cake as well. Just about all the food was was local and home-made on the premises, even the lemon curd on the breakfast table. Breakfast was excellent and next time we intend to sample an evening meal which will no doubt be of the same high standard. Thank you Alwyn and Heather - we'll be back!

Stayed for one night in April ready for the Exmoor Endurancelife coastal trail series marathon. Welcomed by Heather and given a lovely single room. Very comfortable, clean and warm. Breakfast was served by Alwyn, who at late notice got up to serve breakfast at 6am ready for me to go to the event! Would definitely stay there again!

We stayed as a family ifor 3 nights in April at The Rockvale Hotel in Rooms 6 and 8 (twin and double), As soon as you walk into the hotel, it has a welcoming homely feel. Everywhere is spotless and the lounge(with lovely open fire), bar and dining room are all well presented. I highly recommend Room 6 with beautiful scenic views. Alwyn and Heather were so accommodating and friendly, which made our stay even better. A good choice of things for breakfast, all lovely. It was nice to have yoghurts and fresh fruit, and my son enjoyed the pancakes! Location is ideal for the very quaint cinema, cliff railway and 'The Oak Room' which is a nice Tapas restaurant in the evening. Lynton and Lynmouth is like stepping back in time, but in a good way. The scenery is glorious and we were sad to leave. We will be back next year.

Room Tip: Room 6 is a large double with beautiful views. (Has a bath rather than a shower though). All rooms l...

We recently made a trip to England; first London and then St Ives in Cornwall and finally Lynton in Devon. We stayed at the Rockvale Hotel in Lynton and it was very nice. It was the best stay on our trip. The food was good, the owner was very friendly and helpful, the room was good and Lynton and the surroundings are lovely. I highly recommend Rockvale.

My wife, daughter and I stayed in a family room one night while my son was doing his DoE walk in the area. The room was clean, warm and confortable. My wife enjoyed sitting reading in the lounge un front of an open fire. A lovely breakfast, I chose smoked fish and egg rather than the usual bacon, sausage, etc. The owner is very friendly and makes all the meals on the premises - free range eggs from their own chickens, home made yoghurt, etc. Oh yes, we also went to the excellent little cinema , a couple of minutes walk away, like stepping back in time - fantastic!
