A lovely, quiet, unpretentious (something we believe is a breath of fresh air in this age of boutique hotels) and traditional b & b. The room was very clean and well presented, the breakfast was delicious (a comment below about the bacon and sausages seems odd given the obvious quality) and the fuss that was made of our five year old daughter was very nice; the highlight for her feeding the owner's hens. Indeed the welcome for our daughter was refreshing after so many other establishments seem to only welcome children over the age of 12. Thanks for a fab short break.

We recently stayed at Rockvale just one of many visits over the years. It is very well placed in Lynton yet very quiet with good views overlooking Lynton town and some of the hills of exmoor. There are many fantastic walks around the local area. The Rockvale has a friendly atmosphere with good rooms, good meals, and is great value. Hopefully we will be returning soon.

I recently spent a week at this hotel and found it to be comfortable and with a staff that were welcoming and friendly. I should say at this point that I have been returning to this hotel for 15 years, so that should say something !! The breakfasts are excellent with a varied choice to suit all tastes ( try the haddock and poached egg, it good !), Another thing that puzzles me is why more people do not take advantage of the evening meals, that I can assure everyone are excellent, and sometimes we are even allowed to make our own choice. The cost is reasonable and how nice to settle back in their comfy lounge with tea or coffee, and with a well stocked bar not five metres away !
I heartily recommend this establishment to all.

I visited this friendly establishment with a walking collegue, having visited on numerous occasions before.
As usual we had a good laugh with Alwyn the Proprieter who in turn gave us a good breakfast from a menu with sufficient choice for all. The evening meal was excellent value when compared to some of the outside restaurants in Lynton.
My room was on the 2nd floor which had a bath and a very comfortable bed, adequate for my single occupancy. There was plenty of choice of tea and coffee refreshments when needed.
Within a stone's throw there is fantastic scenery which many of the rooms in Rockvale look out onto. If you enjoy walking then there are walks of all lengths that can be tackled depending on your fitness.
Nearby ( about 300 yards) there is the Lift which takes one down to Lynmouth (and back up a very steep hill to Lynton) where there is a good pebble beach and interesting shops.
A bonus in Lynton is that there is sufficient parking offroad within The Rockvale's premises.

This hotel is up a short steep road off the main road - giving it fabulous views. The house itself is lovely and Alwyn was very friendly. It was fantastic value and I had a better nights sleep than at somewhere else in the town where i paid a fair bit more. I also was given a choice of rooms. The one i chose was the cheapest (!) at the top of the house. It wasnt en suite but I had a private bathroom across the hall. i chose it for the view - which was panoramic because it had a bay window.
Breakfast was very good. 2 mins walk from main street - several good restaurants nearby, and not far from a nice cliff path walk.

Shame that just a couple of little things jarred - cheapo toilet paper and poor bacon and sausages on the breakfast. Also "Breakfast WILL BE SERVED AT 8.30" - suited us fine, but wouldn't do for everyone. But overall, thanks to a warm welcome, we would certainly consider staying here again. the room was nice and individual, and very comfortable.

I am sorry about the toilet paper, the problem has been rectified.
Quite surprised that the bacon and sausage were a disappointment, they are sourced from a local butcher.
"Breakfast is served at 8.30" is not an absolute rule but we have found that this is the time that suits most guests as they are usually wanting to be up and out early on days when they are staying more than one night and on leaving days check out is 10.30. If guests wish to have breakast at a different time, we are usually able to accomodate this.
