Owner description: Devon's famous Lynton & Lynmouth funicular Cliff Railway is the most exciting way to travel between these two historic towns & will be the highlight of any visit. Enjoy stunning views of the North Devon Coastline as you ride the steepest totally water powered railway in the world or relax in our Cliff Top Cafe with a traditional Devon Cream Tea. This historic Victorian railway opened in 1890. The 862 feet of track rises 500 feet with an impressive gradient of 57% providing stunning views across Lynmouth Bay. The railway is a fully working listed heritage monument is the UK's only fully water powered railway and one of only three examples left in the world.

This railway has a very simple, yet efficient "motor" - gravity and use of water for easy moving of weight. The view is stunning, and the prices are reasonable. Read more on Wikipedia!

Great little cliff railway, our 6 month old loved it too! Wonderful views from the top looking out to the sea, best fish and chips in North Devon near the bottom in Lynmouth! Also walked along the lovely beach. Only had an afternoon there but could have stayed longer!!

Overall our Voyage of Exmoor the Cliff Railway to Lynton was spectacular. The View just sums up Lynmouth Coastal landscape beauty.

This is a great invention from the Victorians as it is operated by water. You get great views over Lynmouth and saves the steep walk up to Lynton. £2.50 one way or £3.50 return.

The railway is a great and fun way to get up and down the cliff - really wouldn't have fancied walking it! Sadly the weather wasn't great for us and the place looked a bit bleak, but given a sunny day the place would come alive.
