Owner description: Devon's famous Lynton & Lynmouth funicular Cliff Railway is the most exciting way to travel between these two historic towns & will be the highlight of any visit. Enjoy stunning views of the North Devon Coastline as you ride the steepest totally water powered railway in the world or relax in our Cliff Top Cafe with a traditional Devon Cream Tea. This historic Victorian railway opened in 1890. The 862 feet of track rises 500 feet with an impressive gradient of 57% providing stunning views across Lynmouth Bay. The railway is a fully working listed heritage monument is the UK's only fully water powered railway and one of only three examples left in the world.

This well maintained cliff railway takes people from Lynmouth up to Lynton. Our children loved it - ticket prices could be a bit lower though. Excellent cream tea's at the cafe near the top station.

The station is fascinating and there is an excellent little shop and book room. the staff were all very friendly and cheerful even though it was a wet and cold morning. We had our ride up to Killington and got off and then went for a long walk and caught the 4.15 train back. The driver recognised us and asked about our walk and seemed pleased that we had made it for our return journey. All the staff were very knowledgable about the train and the station. A bit expensivre at £7 per person for a 10 minute ride up the line and 10 minutes back but you can have as many rides in the day as you want. It was a lovely experience and certainly worth doing.

We used the cliff railway on a gorgeous sunny day, so the views whilst travelling up the railway and at the top were amazing. Although the journey on the railway itself is quite short, there is a lovely little village at the top of the cliff to look around.

The attraction is well maintained and reasonably priced.

My third visit to Lynton and Lynmouth and nice to see this attraction has been kept sensibly priced and so well maintained. Helpful and friendly staff remain too. You'd be mad to come here and not go on this amazingly clever yet simple engineering masterpiece.
