This is a proper pub with well kept tasty beer.
Very friendly landlord and lovely and lively pub dog.
We only had time for one pint but will visit again.

the web site, and reviews led us to believe we were in for a real treat here. I have to say it was very disappointing. the welcome was friendly, and the pub deserted. it was midweek though. there was a nasty smell in the stairs up to the rooms, like a vacuum that needs last years dirt removed from it. the bar was in need of a good clean too. the rooms were ok, and did the job. im afraid I cant comment about breakfast, as the smell on the stairs killed any appetite I had left. the pub has potential, but it really needed a good scrub!!

We stayed in Lynmouth recently and visited this pub to eat on our host's recommendation.
We only meant to eat there once, but ended up returning all three nights of our stay.

The landlord and staff couldn't have been more welcoming to us and our (rather large) dog. And each evening we went in appeared to be genuinely pleased to see us. There was no restriction as to where we could sit with the dog, which was a nice change. Although I could see that this might annoy others in the pub. But when the landlord's dog is the first to greet you through the door then you know what type of pub you are entering.

There were a couple of local ales on tap and a nice draught cider alongside the usual lagers.
Food was typical pub grub, nice big portions (perfect for when you've spent the day walking on Exmoor), well cooked and served quickly even when busy.
The live band in Saturday night was an added bonus. And even though the pub was heaving our large, soaking wet dog was still welcome.

We are a group of 11 adults on our annual weekend away.
We were greeted by the friendliest chap in the world. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing with huge portions, the best we have had on any of our trips.
There was great entertainment which attracted locals and visitors so the atmosphere was incredible.
Mark the landlord spoke to everyone, telling stories and jokes and made you feel like you had known him forever.
Yes there were 2 adorable dogs but they didn't come down until everyone had eaten and were very well behaved.
We did not stay here as we had hired a house nearby but came here every evening.
We will definitely be back to stay here next time.

Two nights away from home without husband or kids could have been somewhat lonely. However two lovely evenings spent at the Village Inn with great food, good wine and fascinating company meant that it was the opposite. Thanks Razor (Mark ) and Bev for treating me like a local.
